For some/a lot of people it is all about cost. If buying an EV saves money they will be quicker to buy one. If an expensive EV never has a reasonable break even point when compared to a similar vehicle that can do the same job then the motivation to buy one is much lower.

I don't think anyone buys a 90k rivian hoping to get it back on MPGees. Even at 70k it's beyond any reasonable expectation. It's a lifestyle choice at these prices.

I too would like a "fair" comparison in pricing.

Woke up to a new email from Rivian that basically says "we done fucked up and didn't account for how pissed off everyone would be and don't want to lose all that money" and says that all pre-order prices will be honored now and the increase is only on orders placed after March 1st.

This in a nutshell. I don't have the disposable income some of these guys have with their multiple Teslas. Sorry can't do it right now financially. My first HD TV was $1600 a good 10 years after their introduction. That TV technology is probably about $350 right now. I NEVER would buy a TV for $5000 and I sure as hell won't buy a vehicle for over $75000. I just want the technology to get better and cheaper that's all. Guess I'm just old and crusty.

At $80,000 the Rivian I had pre-ordered would cost $30,000 more than my Tacoma as it sits now with purchase price plus aftermarket stuff. That $30k is about 120k miles of gas for the Tacoma. The breakeven point for that extra $30k Rivian is about 150k miles of use when considering just the cost of fuel versus electricity ($.24/mile vs $.05/mile cost).

It's hilarious that someone preaching about progression into the future & bitching about clinging to old ways recently bought a gasoline-powered vehicle.

    Rivian has done a U-turn.

It's still a lot of money, no one spending $60-80-90 thousand dollars on a new EV is doing it to "save money." If you can afford that vehicle, then rising gas prices aren't really an issue for you. You have to have other reasons, and that will vary widely from buyer to buyer, just like any other luxury good.

I'm holding out hope for the next Tacoma getting an efficient hybrid powertrain.

Same reason people spend money on tweaked out F150s branded as Lincoln MKVII Platinums. Nobody hauls lumber in those things, it's all about image.

There are brand new EV's to be had under $25k. Used with higher range under $35k. So all EV's are expensive is misleading but there is a compromise with price to range.

    Here's a pricing chart for new EV's

Yup, picked it up in Sep. It's over in the other car thread somewhere.

Tl;dr it's darned fast. Road trips well. Goes up to the ski resorts well. Not gonna smug, but it's nice still paying 5c/mile as the gas prices increase from recent events.

The Prius fender flares look pretty lame and useless.
Toyota often is a late adopter of new tech. Add it once the bugs are worked out...
The EV Taco's grill/front bumper looks better than the normal third gen.
Bet there's a 2wd EV Taco before a 4wd one. That seems more pratical.

40k sticker, then a 2500 rebate (state) and 7500 off my federal taxes. So about the same as a TRD taco.

Yeah meanwhile I keep vehicles for 20 years heh.

Presuming they go with a full independent suspension/drive setup, I can't imagine them selling a non-AWD electric Tacoma. All the other electric trucks coming out are AWD, so a RWD electric Tacoma simply wouldn't compete.

edit: Different story if we still have IFS and a straight rear axle, however.

It really depends, I think, on if Yota goes with a standard t-case or a electric rear. Toyota's existing MGR only puts out about 60hp so at high speeds it's kinda FWD biased.

nothing yet has 100 miles on it.
I would assume these are not plug-in trucks! If that is the case you will need to bring a generator when you go back trail riding. How stupid!

Why would you need to bring a generator?
