How would you know this if you didn't see the fuel truck? Do you go in and ask the attendant before fueling up?

lol nah, 85 octane (here in CO) from the cheapest sign I find on my daily route. I typically try to fill up at Sam's when it's slow, are they top tier? The other cheapest place I stop for gas is Stinker, are they top tier?

I have a hard time believing gas is all that different and modern engines are so good that it doesn't matter anyway. I've never had any problems, even with my old '90 Pathfinder that I drove for a decade beginning when it was almost 20 years old.

Careful with that around here, you don't want the "free market" secret police to come get ya for implying the filthy "r" word is OK hahahaha. FWIW I'm also all about it, "r" the sh*t out of that market!

Absolutely not, where ever the cheapest gas in town is is where I go. Toyotas in general can withstand practically anything. Every Toyota my family has owned usually goes into the 200k+ mile range before seeing any major issues (which are not typically that big of a deal). Also, if there is one thing Top Gear has taught me, the Taco is indestructible. Save your money and get the cheapest.

At this point what doesn't qualify as top tier?

    https://toptiergas.com/licensed-brands/

Most if not all of the refineries producing gasoline are owned by companies on that list. Any independent gas station is buying their gas from them and will likely have all of the same detergents as the big name shops. It's marketing and they have to pay to advertise being a "Top Tier" brand.

BP has been on and off of the list, but that is because they didn't want to pay for marketing that they could do themselves. BP is usually graded higher than Chevron or Shell.

The gas is technically the same as it's all one pipeline but the additives are added at the terminal before it gets to the gas station. I try to stick with top tier as much as I can as my old company did studies on the minimum detergent gas and it eventually leaves deposits behind on your valves and other areas. Probably never going to kill our trucks but I'm OCD and I like my stuff as new as I bought it.

Costco 87 gas always used for my Taco. If I'm feeling dangerous and want to live on the edge, I'll use Costco 91.

It all leaves carbon deposits, just takes longer with top tier. I do a seafoam engine fog once or twice a year to help clean it off.

ARCO which was always the junk food of gas now claims their gas is "Top Tier". Regardless, I've used ARCO for 35 years and have never had a problem, its usually .30 cents cheaper. Here in Kalifornia as of yesterday Mobil was 5.19 and ARCO was 4.89 this is for regular 85 octane

Fresh seafood or frozen also work?

Just kidding....i'm a believer in Seafoam, i toss it in a full tank once a year usually in the spring as part of my "spring cleaning"

Do you run it in your oil before you're about to change it also?

I know what you meant, but this made me laugh.

A bit of a citrus on the seafood will help the cleanse.

I’ve always heard that Quiktrip’s gas is crap, so I stay away from there when I can.

    Other than that I don’t think I’ve ever payed attention to what’s “top-tier” and what isn’t. I go for what’s convenient:notsure:

Damn autocorrect. I even caught it the first time and fixed it and it changed it again

I do the fog through the intake and then toss a can in the tank at the same time. I've done the oil treatment in the past on previous higher mileage trucks but only a few times, never done that on my new truck.

Just curious, cause i've never done it, only heard of people doing it. Curious as to the actual real world benefits of it

I go to whatever gas station is the most convenient and fill her up with 87 with no idea whether it is Top Tier. I’ve never understood gasoline brand loyalty.

For the boat I will seek out non-ethanol gas if I’m trailering it, but 95% of the time I get it on the water and there is only one choice: 91 non-ethanol. 92 or higher in the dirt bike. Manual says 95+, but I don’t know where to get that except an airport.

My first truck was a hand-me-down 92 Dodge Dakota that my dad gave me when he got a new one...that thing hated ARCO gas, it would run like shit on it. Would randomly stall and stall with the clutch in as you were slowing down for a stop...only happened with ARCO gas, ran fine on everything else. One day I was in a pinch and had to put ARCO in it, ended up stalling on me on the freeway in the fast lane. Few weeks later I sold it, bought my first Tacoma, and have only used top tier in every vehicle since.

Supposedly it breaks up sludge and removes carbon in the oil tank/bottom end of the engine. Who knows.
