I paid that brand new for a fully loaded 2020 Cement OR, yikes, but that was a good find, I've seen similar $40k+ around here.

A little bit of this, and a little bit of that.
That's pretty similar to what I got mine for. The previous owner leased it and traded it in early after only a year. The apparent backstory is that he had more kids on the way and traded for a Tundra.. 19 OR, but I don't have the leather seats or sunroof, but 13k miles for 36k on the window back in March of 2021.

I found my 2018 Inferno in a similar way... Lease came in... must have sat for much of the pandemic. No other reason why it had less than 22k on the odo when I got it.... I didn't get as sweet a deal as you, but I needed a ride, and was not going to let the Inferno slip through my fingers...

These prices are here to stay. Dealerships will never go back to prepandemic ways. Dealers are making about 6k per car instead of $1800. They only have half the staff and one's I spoke with took a pay cut to come back. Even a receptionist took $100 a week pay cut. Dealerships are owned by 6 or so major companies now thru the country, so they are beholden to their shareholders not customers. This is no longer mom and pop owned and family discounts. Now they know people will pay more the manufacturers will want in and are raising the msrp. Ford just raised the prices on F150's $1500 on Feb 16th across the board. Why let the dealers get all the money? People complain dealers markup but why did they always assume they could get a discount below msrp? Used to be you ordered a car and waited so no reason it can't go back to that. Besides your used cars are now worth more so enjoy the ride.

I’ve never used plastid but like the idea for my white sr5. If used can I take it off easily without damage to the flare? Which brand do you recommend ? Thanks

Put a deposit on an already allocated 2022 4x4 Limited SB on New Year's Eve. Arrived at dealer yesterday. Picking up next week. Paid $44,012 MSRP (+TTL) for the truck with very little port installed stuff (all weather mats and sill protectors, mudflaps and exhaust tip.) Area dealers are marking up $3-5K so guess I feel OK about it. Did see Toyota raised the base price $200 since then so guess that's sort of like getting a discount, right?

Dealer has had no Tacomas either at the time or since on the lot for sale so they are selling everything off allocation before arrival.

Am getting very good money for my '15 Tacoma trade in which helps. Also paying less than what they wanted for a certified used 9K mile 2020 Limited at the time I put the deposit down on this new 2022 so there's that, too.

Hate to be that guy... But WOW (and lol) at anyone thinking a taco is worth >30k, especially a used or non TRD model.
I like my taco, but it's not THAT great of a truck.
How are most Americans affording to pay 40 grand for a USED one? I know people apparently saved money during the pandemic, but with the historic American being unable to save more than 10 grand, I'm guessing people are taking huge, long term loans.
Tough situation if you NEED a new vehicle

I paid MSRP of $39,758 + $395 dealer fee for my '21 TRD Sport DCSB 4wd. That MSRP also included the OEM tonneau cover, all weather floor mats and door sill protectors, spare tire lock and ally wheel locks.

It's worth what people will pay. Check out Bringatrailer auction site see what things go for. a 1974 celica just sold for like 65k? Honda element 40k. These weren't trailer queens either. I used to sell art work in Hawaii people bought 50k paintings I could have painted myself but I didn't stop them. Seen the prices of houses lately? No one has a crystal ball. Tacoma today the last year of the v6 with manual could well do what the fj cruiser is doing before we go 4 cyl twin turbo with auto only. I remember at the beginning of the pandemic the "experts" said car prices to crash 30% or more along with housing. How did that work out?

Original-Owner 1974 Toyota Celica GT 5-Speed for sale on BaT Auctions - sold for $61,000 on November 29, 2021 (Lot #60,536) | Bring a Trailer

No Reserve: 16k-Mile 2007 Honda Element SC for sale on BaT Auctions - sold for $36,000 on December 23, 2021 (Lot #62,182) | Bring a Trailer

5,200-Mile 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Edition 6-Speed for sale on BaT Auctions - sold for $63,920 on February 28, 2022 (Lot #66,911) | Bring a Trailer

I had an offer that I could not refuse to sell my Lexus LX450 basically doubling my money on a 26 year old vehicle. Little did I know that USED Tacoma TRD PRO's were going to be $50K and that I'd be on a waiting list for who knows how long for a new one. I acquiesce on getting whatever the dealership had coming in that had not been spoken for a 22' SR5 Trail my first brand new vehicle in 20 years.

Real estate was kind to us in 2021. We sold a house that we bought 8 years earlier and cleared about $120k. We bought a new to us house at a discount because it needed about $30k worth of major work... new roof, new hvac, new water heater, etc. We used some of the leftover real estate profits to put $20k down on a $40k truck. We still took the loan out to 60 months because at 2.49%, why not? Our payment is just under $400 for a vehicle that we expect to last us at least 12-15 years.

People are getting so much for their trade it washes it out. I traded my 2021 Tacoma TRD pro in for almost 6k more than I paid. I bought 2021 4runner pro for about 5k more so it basically was a wash. It's not the asking price it's the final numbers. Toyota's are at the top of the food chain for resale before and after so it really doesn't matter much. Manufacturers have already raised their msrp 5 plus percent so used cars prices won't crash like people say.
