Because that's a measurement of the rim... not the wheel.

What part of the wheel is that measurement for?

So we can’t talk about 17” wheels, we have to talk about “wheels with a 17” rim.”

i expect everyone to adjust their words immediately

Or we could just realize that colloquialisms exist in English and everyone knows that rim and wheel are referring to the same thing when someone says “I want bronze rims”

this thread is so 3rd gen it hurts

The rim and the rest of the wheel. The decal does not state "17" Rim and 7.5" Wheel".

That would be because the wheel is not 7.5"... the Rim is 7.5". The rims of the wheel are 7.5" apart...

The equivalent would be a tailor saying that your body is 36"... no... your waist is 36", which is part of your body.

These show me [insert color] wheel/rim on [insert color] truck are stupid... so anything to derail the conversation is a win.

If the OP wants to see pictures of trucks, Google image search is a great feature.

I second this - the gunmetal finish is $$ - and would look good with the red taco

My truck came with black rims - if I was paying for em now, I would go bronze/copper cause it would look nice with my dark green taco - but I would rather that $$ go towards a new suspension since I do not loathe black rims.
However me, my neighbor's Tundra and his wife's 4Runner all have black rims and it is a bit much - I'll give you that 100%

I too call em rims - and this thread gave me a good laugh!
