Switching the bed?

Hey guys new to this thread and new to the Tacoma world. Have the Access cab Prerunner and was wondering if i can fit the shorter bed? with out any issues, and how hard is it to remove and install a bed?

 

I think (and dotn't take this as fact) that its only a few bolts and the rear wiring harness. You might want to ask one of the guys with a LT setup though. I know thye normally remove their beds to make the rear suspension cage.

 

To remove the bed is fairly simple, but to swap to a short bed I believe is more complicated. The frame is longer on the long bed and the wheel spacing is longer. I could be wrong, but if you did this you are probably doing a significant overhaul to the rear end.

 

Can't be done. Maybe if you simultaneously switched to the double cab, in which case you might as well trade it in.

 

You have to shorten the frame brake lines driveshaft etc.maybe someone can Photoshop a shorted on an access cab

 

You could do it but I don't think you'd get the desired effect. The bumper and tailgate would be in the same place on the frame and you'd have a 1 foot gap between the bed and cab. Somehow I doubt that is what you were looking for.

How about going from a short bed to a long bed on a double cab?

 

I thought about this myself i dont think it would work the more i thought about what needed to be done. I have seen one that has been bobbed he is on rock solid toys.com this is prob what i will do one day just need to work out the small details

 

Still a pretty big overhaul, I think easier, but you are doing so much you might get better value out of your time and money to trade in.



However, whoever does this whether shorter or longer, take lots of pics, I want to see it happen.

^ I see, so he cut out from behind the tires, that would be quite a bit eaiser. Still too much work for me, but a million times easier than cutting out in front of the tire.

Stuck with it? I've only had my truck a year and a half, and I can't count how many times I've hauled stuff for myself and others that wouldn't have fit in a short bed without getting creative. I really like having a long bed.

 

The bed is good if you are moving stuff but if you are on a trail that 6 foot bed can become a bitch and snag shit

 

I really don't think it sticks out any further than a trd/or/dc, I could be wrong though. It's dclb that has a disadvantage off road due to wheelbase....I think anyways.

 

oh i am not saying that the DC is any better you are right the DC is stuck no matter what with the bed
