Thanks for this photo, without it I probably would have gotten the vertical extensions wrong at least a couple of times. I shelled out for the security bolts, and was a little annoyed that they did not include security bolts for the extensions, I'll have to find some. I'm also a little concerned about having to limit the torque to 10 lb-ft on those diagonal frame braces as the factory spec is 34 lb-ft. But nothing has fallen off yet so in general I'm very pleased with the Talons shield. Also I should mention that Shaun, the manufacturer, responds very quickly to emails, so A+ on customer service.

That’s weird, mine did. I will say that I changed it up and used one of each (included and security) on each pairing. It’s a little more work for me to remove, but that’s added aggravation for anyone trying to bypass.

I am glad it worked for you. I did not see anything about those two pieces in the install instructions. Then my Lego brain kicked and I put it all together. :)

I have to suck it up and get the secure bolts. Truthfully they should be part of the whole.

I have been watching this thread and a couple of others on the subject of catalytic converter protection. I wanted to post up what I ended up doing in case anyone is in the same boat.

RCI Offroad now offer a "Catalytic Guard" (started about a month ago) that you can add to your existing RCI Transmission skid plate or part of a new install. These were the skids I had been planning to install and the new protection sealed it. I happened to be in CO and got the exhaust reroute done (A A Performance Muffler & Brakes in Englewood, CO) and had the great guys @RCI-Offroad do a full install for me. If you have the RCI skids already or are thinking about them you now have protection for the catalytic converters.

I’m in the market for some shields for my 06 Taco and 10 Tundra. The Tundra recently had the driver side cats stolen.
Been looking at the Talons, Cat Security, Miller Cat, and Valhalas. I inquired on each if those websites and so far, only Talon responded. Unfortunately Talon’s website says they don’t ship to Hawaii. And, from what I see, Valhalas don’t make shields for the Taco. I would prefer to order shields for both trucks from the same company. Also, i would prefer full cat protection- not just before the rear cats. Any other recommendations?

You could order from whomever you want and use a freight intermediary. Often times the vendor shipping to freight company is much less, sometimes free, and you pay for the ship/barge space to Hawaii (or AK in my case).

May I asked who you ordered from and who did you use for freight forwarding?

Not sure if they do Hawaii too.

I'd give them and some local Hawaii places a call to see.

You can get the ship weight, dimensions, and package status (like on a pallet, in a box, unpackaged/loose, etc) from vendor and ask for a quote on the freight.

    Good luck!

Edit: I got my RCI skid, then cat guards when I was in Seattle - so didn't do the freight thing for that

It’s Talon’s Garage, like he said. The logo also gives it away. I have one as well… LOVE IT!

RCI currently offering free cat guards with transmission plate, assuming you have a need or even just a want for a transmission plate. I have front and transmission plate from RCI, just installed Friday. I think it is ONLY 100 lbs added, but others see the belly-plating as unnecessary weight until they off-road enough.

EDIT: Despite my signature (in honor of those who have modded extensively) the belly plates are as far as I have gone in changing the truck.

I like the Miller Cat. Aluminum or stainless it’s just a deterrent. If a thief sees the shield they will most likely move on because it’s a speed theft and prob not worth investing time in getting the cats if it takes more than 2 mins. I just hope the shield doesn’t piss them off and they sawzall (damage) something else just to be a dick.

I don’t recall having to do anything special. I do remember he was working with several people to make sure it fit different models as he had limited access to 2x4,4x4,v6, I4, etc. I can still grease my front axle zerks, so there’s that too!
