time it to be here on a weekend and we can go camping. i know awesome places.

if you're going in july august be mindful of wildfires. when i drove up during my move to AK my trip got delayed a month as they kept closing the highway due to the proximity of a fire. i didn't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere or have to take a massive detour.
theres a publication called the milepost its basically a yellow pages for everything you'll come across on the road. its organized mile by mile so you can easily see whats coming up next as far as sightseeing, businesses, gas, repair, etc etc. SUPER helpful to pay for the printed version as you may not have cell service to be able to call ahead or look stuff up online. So much information in there. They print a new one every year just in case businesses close or new ones open so dont get it unless you're sure youre going.
i took a similar route when i went and left through Roosville. will have to jog my memory but i know there were a ton of stops we didnt have time for and i've wanted to go back ever since. i'll look up some of the spots and PM you.
oh, and if you ahven't already consider booking a spot on one of the ferries getting back down. they do take passengers all the way, not just cars. sort of a no frills cruise.

Well, so far it's not looking so good. I went into town today, the local price for gas was $3.79 for 87 octane. I think it's reasonable to say 2022 isn't looking very travel-friendly, and given the current outlook, 2023 might not be any better. I think making the trip happen will likely depend on whether you think your retirement income will support a 10,000+ mile trip on a $4.25+ average PPG. On my best day, I get 13mpg, towing the trailer I got 11.5mpg. My fuel cost average was $3.08ppg. The lowest I paid per gallon was $2.69 with a high of $4.29. Gas has gone up over $1.10 ppg here in the last 6 months. It's hard to say how much more it will go up in the next 6 months. I want to make the trip out west again in 2024, but the price of fuel is going to have to come way back down for me to afford to do it again, like sub $3pg but preferably $2pg.:(

I have family in CA who want to move out. I left CA as a kid and it is not the same California anymore. I am looking hard at moving to Tennessee myself because of their tax friendly state.

Gas tax that high and the turnpike still sucks? I'd have the bumper sticker to.

Yeah, the Turnpike does suck. It has the distinction of being the most expensive road, per mile, in the WORLD, and the Turnpike commission now wants to start to toll bridges over certain interstates. Corruption at its finest is probably the reason why.
