I know it is a bit more of a pain to do, but I installed my rear footwell lights mounted to the rear cubby wall. I just didn't like the idea of moving wires when opening/closing the rear seats for access to the storage well. I took some 1/2" aluminum angle and made some 3" long brackets. There's an existing 3/8" hole on each side that's convenient for running the wires through and it's pretty much centered where you want it. I did end up hard-wiring my lights and getting rid of the QD's because of the diameter of the connectors compared to the existing hole but it's a permanent install anyway. I used M3 countersunk screws to secure the brackets with flanged locknuts and it is very secure and I think the finished install looks great.

So I wanna give a HUGE thank you to @TheCochese. I followed your write up pretty much to do my rear lights install.

I only wanted to add a few pics in case some one might be confused on somethings.

    Removed the under seat storage:

I'd recommend these trim removal tools. My plastic screws didn't wanna come out.

    Front and rear covers removed

I used some doubled sided 3M tape I had left over and put the wires up under the seats

I decided to move/re-wire my rear lights - tried placing them on the top of the rear wall of the footwell but when you turn your head to look out the rear window they just glared in your eyes. I followed @TheCochese 's example. I used 1/2" black 3M tape to secure the wires/connectors instead of glue - seems like they will hold well. Now they are perfect!

I really enjoy reading these. You all are creative! I recommend anyone that wants to install their rear kit to the lip of their rear seats to follow one of these. If you want to install them to the rear of the front seats (how we originally designed the kits), there are now instructions here. I’ve added the link to the front page as well. Thanks again to everyone who’s helped generate ideas for the rear kits!

The 2nd Gen thread is here! I’ll be sharing some updates on those kits and the 4Runners this week.

Excellent quality products - and having the extra lengths of wire available make it easy to get creative on placement.

@kmorgan3 No hurry, just wondering if there's been any noteworthy progress on the dome light switched version.

I have a harness design that I know will work; I just haven't gotten around to making a prototype and testing it. I'll have some more bandwidth after I finish a couple of other things I'm working on

I want to purchase some replacement 5500k white. I'm going to try them vs. the aqua. I think it'll look better when opening the doors. I know VLED has them here, but is that for a single one? So it would be close to $40 for the new set (just the fronts so x2)? Just want to confirm before purchasing.

If you want the same ones that came in the kit, you'll want the "side exit" version. They are $20 each on the VLEDS site.

No. Look for the side exit version if you want the same type that came in the kit. The wires should exit the LED right next to each other.

Another thanks to @TheCochese for the tip on the blue Rav4 Qi spotlight. Got mine this week, excit
Man my forearms are sore and my fingers even more so but I'm pretty stoked on that mod. Probably way easier with the panel removed but it is doable from the reacharound. Thanks for the part number and the idea, this one bothered me a fair bit I think. Excited to see it tonight.

ETA: Photo. Oh, and, yes I'm working on the fugly seat heater switch, I have some OEM aqua ones, need to get those swapped...
