Lunar Rock Gen III Thread

New to the Tacoma club and its first truck I’ve ever owned. Was browsing the inventory at a dealer in Socal when I saw they had a Taco in Lunar Rock and remembered that i had seen one of these out in the wild before and really liked it. Called the dealer and it was still available! Filled out the paperwork online on Sunday and picked her up on Monday!
Proud to say that I’ve read all 99 pages on this thread .
Not sure yet how much I will be modding this truck. I prefer the mildly modded stock look. For now, I will be:

1. blacking out the emblems
2. adding the black tailgate inserts,
3. Adding a retro trd license plate frame (hey, i live in Cali and I have to have a license plate in the front of the car ).
4. A Tonneau cover (Any suggestions? Need something under $800.)
5. maybe adding darker tint.

What other mods would you guys recommend?

 

Also, I can agree with you guys that the color is awesome! In only 5 days of ownership I’ve already gotten several compliments on the color. They always ask what color it is. It looks different under different lighting conditions.

Didn’t know that there was such a craze for the Lunar Rock until after I bought the truck and found this thread! But I can definitely see why.

 

If you have a front plate, then the officer doesn't have a fixable citation to write you for.

Lol! I always wonder how likely it would be to get cited over a missing front plate. Might give it a try until I get my first ticket.

I'm trying to get Longo to not install the front frame.

I have a tyger roll up cover for my 2020 tundra that I paid $225 Canadian dollars for on Amazon 2.5 years ago. It has been through almost 3 winters here in the north east and not one issue. So I ordered on for my tacoma, $335 now, but still a good deal for something I’ve had good luck with. I like the roll up style because I can still use the entire bed unobstructed in about 10 seconds.

 

Does it have a good water seal? Don’t want my stuff getting wet.
I’ve been leaning getting a soft cover due to cost, and weight, But I live in an urban area and have been told that soft covers are not a good idea since thief’s could easily tear the cover to see what’s inside.

I might just go with the soft cover since i wouldn’t be putting anything expensive in the truck bed anyway.

 

if any water ever gets in it just trickles in on the front corners and gets trapped in the outer grove of the bed. There has never been any significant amount enter though.

I’ve never had an issue with people cutting into my bed cover but I live in a relatively crime free area. The most expensive thing in my bed would be a chainsaw or maybe my hockey gear.

Crazy how the color looks different on each picture. Partly cloudy sky and both pictures were taken within minutes from each other but from a slightly different direction.

 

Ridgecrest Toyota had a LR DCSB Sport 2wd a couple days ago for around $39k

 

Getting pumped! My reservation was supposed to go out of production 3/2 and I'm expecting an update next week for ETA. Hoping I can get it in a couple weeks or at least by the end of this month!

Already have blackout vinyl covers in hand for the wheels and a set of sliders that are going to be ready for it around next month

 

what kind of covers? Do you have a link?
