Headlamp recommendations?

Like the title says, looking for recommendations for headlamps with good headbands. What do yall use when camping?

Im a big fan of the el cheapo 18650 powered ones off Amazon. My last one lasted me almost five years but eventually died. Currently using the one linked below and love it. 18650 cells are a must so I can interchange between my flashlights when they die. And the magnetic base is actually real handy when working on the truck even though I thought it was kinda silly at first.

The issue is the headbands are always terrible. One linked above is too small in the summer, let alone in the winter with a hat on. Bought a few cheapos to try and use their headbands, but those were also either too small still or the adjustment clasps dont hold.

Any recommendations welcome.

I prefer a coast From HD. I like to clip to a hat instead of head band.

Not a bad idea. I dont wear a hat too often though

 

I like my old Black Diamond (unknown model), my new one not so much (Storm 400). If I were buying another, I'd get one of the cheaper BD without all of the ridiculous features that you (probably) don't need. The click and hold, double click, double click and hold, whatever, is too confusing when all I want is hi/lo or just buy a Petzl Tikka or Actik series. Both brands have good head bands that have lasted me years; when the one on my old BD headlamp finally wore out they sent me a new head strap for free plus gave me a 50% off code for a new light (hence the Storm 400).

Side note, the Petzl e+Lite is a really handy little light to toss in your daypack, truck bag, wherever.

 

Yeah, sometimes the number of different functions they include is nuts. Three or four brightness settings and call it done

 

I have both Black Diamond and Petzl headlamps and my Petzl Actik is the go-to. The Actik takes AAA batteries but if you want to go rechargeable Petzl now offers the Actik Core. The Actik is the best lamp I have found for ~50.00. I like that switching between lighting modes is easy and there is a red LED that I use when I am overlanding in the middle of nowhere.

 

My problem with petzl and black diamond has always been the lumen output. Or anything with AAA which has bad runtimes for anything around or over 500 lumens (advertised) from what I’ve seen. I’m not a headlamp expert.

I have a Princeton tec apex 600. it’s been fine for backpacking and venturing. They have a rechargeable model if you’re into that kind of thing as well.
My backup is one I got at autozone, it has some weird name like police and security or something. That’s my cheap one.

 

Yup, thats one of the reasons I want something powered by 18650s. Way brighter in my experience, plus one battery type across all my lights as I said before

 

I run a petzl as well. Big fan!

 

Petzl fan here. I value light weight over run time, since I only use my headlamp when I'm heading into the woods for a head call after dark...lol I camp with a small Petzl headlamp and a small penlight.

 

I'm a fan of the rechargable Milwaukee. We use them at work so it's what I carry but very bright and lasts.

 

Another vote for the Actik or Tactikka I've had a bunch of headlamps over the years and these work great and are hella bright.

Get a couple extra rechargeable batteries and the lantern case and you're all set.

 

Do you happen to know which model? Ive looked through their selection before and they have like 50 different models of headlamps haha

We get these. Super bright and rechargable. Battery is in the back so a little weird to lay your head on at first but comfy for everything else.

I have been using these which I got on a deal and have been pretty happy with output and such though I would necessarily trust them for the AT...

Black Diamond or Petzl. You get what you pay for.

 

Thanks to a basically free and endless supply of cells from laptop and powertool packs, I've standardized on 18650 lights too.

Unfortunately what I've used for years probably has the same headband issues. (standard Unavailable/no ETA product)

Exactly. Its such a versatile cell.

That one you linked looks almost exactly the same as the Sofirn thing I have now but does have to top strap. Ill have to keep my eye on it
