Worked a lot better cutting drywall than the stock metal blade that it came with.

Disregard, I don't know how to read.
It's not an impact, you need to use it as a conventional ratchet to break the bolt first then use the power ratchet function. Modes 1/2 would be more for fastening where you need low torque.

The M12 Stubby most definitely IS an impact. The M12 ratchet is not an impact but there is a M12 right angle impact that sort of looks like a ratchet.

I use the Stubby on mode 3 for maximum removal torque and no chance of overtightening when reinstalling. Works great for removing lug nuts which is my primary use. I use it with a 6.0 battery.

I didn’t try it on pump bolts.
I tried it on the tensioner bolt.

The truck above in the photo is a 2016 Ram w/67k miles.

I did the pump bolts by hand.
I never break pump bolts free with an impact. Especially the Ram with 5.7
If you mess the threads up on the long bolts, it’s game over. Some of them extend about 8-10” into the block.
If they don’t come out easy at first, you have to run them back in some. Other wise you risk damaging the thread blasting them out with an impact. Once they get loose, I use my M12 ratchet.
That is one of the handiest tool I’ve ever bought.

Maybe I’m just used to the M18 Mid-Torque eating everything I throw at it.
I have the High Torque too, but I almost never need it.

Maybe I was expecting too much out of the little M12?

The SURGE is awesome! I haven’t driven any lags yet but it has no problem driving every length and diameter screw I’ve thrown at it. I had to rebuild a good section of our chicken coop this weekend because we were expanding our grassy area. This tool is amazing. The best feature if found by accident is that you can just slide a bit in and it locks it. A small but valuable time saver.

I've been looking for the reverse of that but they don't seem to exist.

Basically a dummy battery with a cord that you can attach to a 12V source.

I am really surprised that there isn't some Chinese type of this on Amazon.com for this. I agree with you, why not have a 120vac adapter for these tools? Even if it had a big power supply and a 15' coiled cord, it seems like a good continuation of work when all your batteries are exhausted. Seems like something Milwaukee Tool would have for their MX stuff for sure!, but I am just here in my armchair commenting and I am smarter than all those tool engineers.:fistbump::facepalm::gossip::pccoffee:

I think the reason they may not exist comes down to amperage. A battery can provide a lot of amps quickly, where a 12v AC inverter like the one referenced above for the light usually are only a couple of amps at most. Acceptable for a light, but something like a drill that pulls high amps (at least on start up) would most likely overload the adapter.

:fistbump:I knooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow but it would still be a neat option, Makita something slightly different as an optional feature on its higher demand tools. https://www.makitatools.com/ope/connectx

Thanks KODAK for pushing film instead of developing better digital cameras, I wish I had a Kodak phone right now.:frusty:

Just kidding. I think puppypunter makes a bit more sense..............mine was meant as a double meaning: A) THEY want you to BUY more (helps their bottom line) and B) Yeah, always have a butt ton of batteries!

most brands have some sort of power station that you could recharge batteries on, or just plug a tool into

they are in the business of selling batteries

I just found this vid, the guy says it is straightforward to power the tools from DC without unexpected complexity. I figured the RedLink stuff was really just a DRM scheme of sorts, but apparently not.

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eup1XDrHDfg

Another surprise for me is that the batteries do not have a low voltage cutoff of their own, that part of the circuit is in the tool.

I was thinking to scope the operating voltage and current of typical battery-based use. This would really help understand what is happening. I initially figured there was a communication bus between the tool and battery, but I guess not. I haven't yet taken the pieces apart to see what chips they are using, this would also be very helpful in understanding what all they are doing. The light was really simple inside, but I figured the light is low power and may not be worth protecting with DRM if they do such a thing (I am guessing now they do not).

They likely have a copyright on the battery/tool interface and could likely try stop large scale production of it (e.g. a third-party dummy battery eliminator product).

If Milwaukee doesn't want us digging into their tools, they should come up with some better sales lately to keep us occupied lol.
