Ok, been planning my lift and tire deal. I was just getting ready to pull the trigger on the V Tec raptors with an AT tire, something like the Hankook or Cooper were at the top of my list. I am going to do Bilstein 5100 set to .85 with Eibach coils in the front with Toytec add a leaf w 5100's in the rear.

Today I was at a buddy's house. He has an FJ. He had a stack of five Mickey Thompson Classic locks with Mickey Thompson MTZ tires. The tires are used, one is shot, but the other four were pretty good. The one that was on the back as a spare has never been on pavement. He wanted 750 for the set. I snatched them up. The only hitch is that the tires are 33x12.50. I have a prerunner, and don't do much off roading. If I do it is dirt roads to and from the deer stand, fishing pond, etc. What do you think about this setup? I know I am going to have to do some trimming, which is not an issue.

Even if the tires dont work, I can probably dump them for some cash and still get the AT's I was looking at in 285's.

I guess I'd really like to hear from anyone that is running 33x12.50's on a comparable lift to hear how it goes for them.

Another question. What about lug nuts? I know I need acorn style, but will I need the extended shank or will the standard ones work?

    Anybody?

I picked up the wheels today. I am really torn between trimming and running these tires until they are gone, or sell them now for a little equity and buy new tires in 285/70/17. They really would look good on the truck though.

I have the setup you refer to at the top of your post. With 285/70/17 duratracs. I have aftermarket wheels with backspacing of 4.25. You'll need around 4.5ish for best fitment. What is the BS on ur new wheels?

I still rub with tue setup I have. I'd imagine you'll rub even more with true 33's.

Since your a prerunner... I'd say go for a full 3+ ish inch lift. Since u have no CV angles to worry about. Or get some new 4 inch spindles. I wouldn't stop at the 2.5 inches you'll get with the eibach/5100's.

The wheels are 4.5 in backspace. I would go spindles but, $$$$$! I could look at going full OME to get a full 3 inches, but I was trying to avoid doing UCA's if I can. I know I might still need them, but what I have researched says that if I go a full 3 inches, I am definitely in for UCA's. The easiest thing would be to install the lift then the wheels and tires I picked up. The best thing would probably be to sell the tires and go with 285/70. But that requires a few extra steps and more time.

Yes spindles are $$$$ but think of it like some people spend 1400 for aftermarket coilovers to get 3" of lift.

All in all if you ARE going to wheel get spindles if you are not going to wheel just get some basic coilover like toytec or OME.

Thats basically what I am going to with the Eibach coils and 5100's (Toytec coilovers). AT least that's what I thought. I have access to a lift and all the tools I need, except the coil compressor, but I plan to take them to a shop and let them put the new coil on the shock.

I am really more concerned about the 33's not my suspension setup. There really is no wiggle room to go to full out coilovers or spindles.

There are some folks running 33x12.5's on 4.5" bs wheels. It just takes a lot of trimming and you need to chop the cab mount. Also need to remove your mudflaps.

Mudflaps were gone on day 2. I hate the way they look. I'm ok with trimming. The body mount is a little trickier, but can be done. Still cant decide.

12.5"s will rub like hell. You're gonna need to cut the cab mount to clear them, and even then I think you'll still rub on the lower A arm. I have the 285/70/17's on my rig with 4.5" BS. The tires are equivalent to 33 x 11.2", I had to cut alot of plastic. Its a tight fit, I can't imagine 12.5's under there.

You never know for sure until you try them, but I don't think it will be an 'easy' fit

I think my head is starting to clear. I have decided the best thing for me is to sell the 33x12.50's and buy 285's. I know I will still have to trim, but I don't need an aggressive MT and I can get some cash to offset buying new tires. Ordering the 5100's this week. I'm ready to get this show on the road.
