    The hole is messed up in front and the new stud fits in loose because of it so the next step I gotta take here is to get either a helicoil or a nutsert and fix it but I am one step closer to being done! Whoo!!

    Alright so here is the question that I would like to get some input on. At the entrance of the hole where the threads got damaged I enlarged accidentally as I was trying to do the extraction at the beginning of this fiasco. I have easily 10 threads if not 13 or 14 worth of engagement inside and once everything is in it should have plenty of support. What do you guys think I should do with the remaining hole? Should I run it as is or should I do something to adjust it like a threaded sleeve of some sort and make it all good again? I can't really find anything that work well in this situation but I know if anyone has answers it would be you guys.

    I see you couldn’t get a punch centered on the broken bolt. I’d probably tap and helicoil at the minimum

    One always understood 6-8 is full strength for a bolt, however this is aluminum. What’s it on?

    Yep, I'm torn in between that and doing the helicoil or nutsert method.

    Yeah, the stupid drill bit walked on me and by the time I realized it things started to get butchered right at the entrance there.

    Timing cover lower bolt that retains the accessory idler, supercharger idler, supercharger tensioner bracket and a few spacers.

    Getting a welder is one thing. Getting a welder that is confident in Aluminum is another story

    I see, I think you’re good to go, just clean it up with a tap first. You don’t want to be dragging and binding it up

    Armchair QB opinion here.

    1. The shaft snapped at a point inside the cover at the tension level that you were running prior to damage.
    2. The damage to the entry of the orifice is less than 20% of what you say are the first ~3 threads. those 3 threads are compromised but not unthreadable.

    I say you're good to go if it still threads down completely. But to be safe, less tension on that threaded TC lower bolt....if that is indeed the cause of the failure.

    Yeah you know that was something else I was contemplating as well. Maybe I can run it temporarily, take it to an aluminum welder and they can patch up the spot that is messed up and then they can clean it up for me as a whole.

    Oh no it's fine. The new bolt went in just nicely.

    No but in all seriousness I threaded it in and then I cinched it down with a jack nut and checked it for play and there was none whatsoever. That stud was in there really hard with little to no wiggle. I put it all back together and just ran it and she lives once more! It felt so good to fire her up and let her breathe life once again. She's back boys!
