well if you start looking let me know and I can let ya know what to look for/stay away from. I like em better than anything (biased I know) but smaller for off-roading, less electrical crap and simpler. Lack of aftermarket sucks but could be worse

I do love my truck too. It's just awesome that it seems easier to modify. It ran and drove well too for having such big tires

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Hell to the no, stay away from anything above NC or the rust belt…wherever that begins.

There's a guy on here that posted a couple weeks ago with a pretty nice size rust hole in his frame. Truck was in Raleigh, NC it's whole life...

    Edit: found his pic:

Oh I'm happy with my truck. I was just admiring 1st gens. I admire land cruisers and 4 runners too. I'm not trying to buy them. Not saying I wouldn't if my bank account would allow it.

Grew up in MA... it's not just this... it's every single bolt/nut has to be hit with the propane torch just to get it loose and then they still break off halfway... so you're replacing basic hardware, your brake rotors are just flaking apart, etc. etc. and that was with a 91 VW in 96 when I first moved to the south.... forget it, stick with stuff from down here...

I might be wrong on the rust thing and I would agree for the most part on the previous comments. But IMO there are certain circumstances that should be observed before making a decision on a northern truck. I bought my truck used it spent it's first 6 months of its life in Anchorage Alaska and the guy was a military gentleman and was transferred to Savannah Ga.. Having Lived in Ohio for most of my teenage (Bit i was born and raised in Georgia) years I was highly aware of rust issues with vehicles. But it came with Toyota's factory coated frame since it was a northern state and was only there for 6 months. Then the rest of it's life it was in Savannah Ga. I crawled under this truck for like 3 hours looking for rust before purchasing. There was minimal rust at best. According to my local tag office and KBB the truck was worth 23,500. Purchased for 17.5K 2 years ago. The seller priced it as an Access Cab, 4 cyld and none 4 wheel drive. Which I have double cab, 4 wheel drive, 4.0 and towing package etc....I'm totally happy with my purchase. I've been offered 26K as it sits. I've added about 3K in goodies! But its a 9 year old truck with 91K Miles.

The truck linked spent it's entire life in MA and only a few months here....I wouldn't think twice about a good deal if the truck was only in a rust belt for less than a year.

Thinking about buying 9 cans of Cosmoline RP-342 and doing my 2 month old Taco, while it is new and it is not too hot outside.
I though there was a write up on rustproofing out trucks, but I cannot find that thread.
    Thank you.

Why? Rust is not an issue here that I've ever seen.

Because I may move in a few years and then it will be too late to rustproof it.

I picked up a set of ko2s and am curious on if my 2” lift will be enough for the tire size. Going from a 265/75 to a 315/75. What do you all say?

edit: I just got a chance to search the forums and nope basically for my set up. Will try to recoup the tires cost and will be on the classifieds

    I
If there’s a will there’s a way. Pretty sure @marinemonkey fit up 35s on his rig with minimal lift.
