Stopped in at my local dealer today and they had the 2022 Africa Twin w DCT....did not know it was offered in DCT. I currently ride 2020 Goldwing w DCT...really enjoy having the dual clutch system.....Has anybody experienced the Africa Twin w DCT? when did they first come out w DCT...I have been thinking KTM 1290 Adventure R.....what are your thoughts on the two?

Damn! I didn't know the US had 22s yet. Usually they are late to delivering them, like April of that year.

I think since 2016 the Africa Twin had DCT. For the base and Adventure Sport models. I did not want an automatic motorcycle. It just looks weird without a clutch and shift lever. What are you supposed to do with your left hand/foot?

There are 4 models of Africa Twin. Base manual, base DCT, Adventure Sports manual, adventure sports DCT.

Also it seems that the 20-21 did not have gold wheels. Oh well haha. Makes mine more unique. That one you pictured looks like the Adventure Sport DCT. That's their top of the line. Has electric suspension, heated grips, and a 6.5 gallon tank. Other than that i saved $4k over getting the base manual. The base manual is more aimed at offroad, while the Adventure Sport is aimed at touring.

I personally am not a fan of KTMs. And for me, no close KTM dealers, so another ding against them.

I have ridden neither, so my opinion is worth exactly $0.00, but a KTM 1290 SA-R has been my dream bike for several years now. I wouldn't even have to think if I had a choice between that and an AT, even with the gold wheels

Hey folks, it’s been a while but I’m still around. I got both EX250s out of storage and ready for spring riding. Just a few small things like oil changes and chain maintenance left to do.

I’ve actually ridden the black one all winter on clear days, so I guess it was never technically in storage. I even had it out in January and February with my cold weather gear.

I’m excited for spring riding!

I stopped off to get gas on the way home and the bike wouldn’t start. Luckily it was the gas station about 1/2 mile from my place so the wall of shame home to gran the 4Runner wasn’t fun but I jumped the bike. Rode it home. Walked back to grab the 4R. Ordered a noco jump pack and getting a new battery tomorrow. Voltage is reading 11.8 which tells me a dead cell. Normal voltage on a battery is about 13.1 and 11.8 tells me a dead cell (cell is 2.2v)

BMW uses a lithium ion battery. Everything I’m seeing, it’s toast. Seeing 11.7-9v where it should be 12.5-7v. Stator is doing its job as when it’s running I’m seeing 14.2v

The battery served me 21k miles through nearly every type of weather and temperature you could throw at it and daily starts

That hardest part was breaking the beads with the the 1200. Lots of patients and windex. And not scuffing the wheel (we failed).

    None... yet.
Batteries and electrical issues - one of the few areas I've been fortunate to have no issues! Going on year 5 for the F4i...

Tires and spooning your own - I'm a lot "less bad" than I used to be! Only done tubeless though. The CRF is going to need a new rear soon and I'll probably take it to "my guy" because I get pissed enough messing with the soft, supple, hot tubeless! Can't imagine adding a tube into the mix...
