Most "sellable" model? Does it matter?

    Hi guys/gals,

I hope everyone is doing awesome!! Quick question, I'm looking at a 2022 Tacoma. Is there any MODEL that is most "desired", "sought after", or has the best resale value?

For example if had a certain model for sale, you'd receive the most interest/calls...

Or, is a Tacoma a Tacoma, and they all receive a lot of interest at any price point (all models are desirable)?

Thank you much for your guidance! :)

In my opinion, a Tacoma is a Tacoma. The resale value on all of them is tremendous and these days you can probably even make a profit on a truck if you bought it within the last few years.

Access cabs are rarer & may possibly be collectible in 75 years.

Pity this thread can't be retroactively antedated to Friday.

Not sure exactly... I just wasn't sure if more people are looking for the lower end, less expensive 4x4 model, or if say the TRD Pro was the diamond of the bunch. Sounds like they all might be pretty equal in popularity.

I wouldn't want to spend the extra money on a Limited if the more popular model was the TRD Sport, etc

Some like the SR5 because they can make it their own.

Some like the Sport because of the hood scoop.

Some like the Off-Road for the matte black fender flares and upgraded suspension / crawl control.

For some, color is king, and they are less concerned about trim levels.

Buy what you like. I don’t think any one trim has an advantage over another at this time. Just take care of it.

All Tacoma‘s are essentially a bank account as opposed to a depreciating asset. But more importantly what do you want? My first 3 were base no option models and I thought that’s all I would like but then I got an OR and in addition to the other obvious things, I like having 2 auto up windows and the other small niceties.

2nd gen 5 lugs are hot right now, because there are no 5 lug 3rd gens.

    Collectibility rises when production ends!

So. Buy the model that wont be produced in the next generation......

These trucks are really variations on a common theme with 4 large $$ choices : 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder and RWD or 4X4.

The four cylinder is only offered in the base model trucks and if you want a handy truck to do general purpose consumer truck stuff you might be plenty happy with the lower cost truck.

Six cylinder trucks offer more all around go power obviously and also more capacity to tow a trailer, the higher trims offer more capable suspension systems, more convenience features and more bling.

It really comes down to what you wish to do with the truck and how much you are willing to pay for it.

All of them are very capable for the average consumers use right off the showroom floor, all have excellent resale and reliability records, there really is no "bad" Tacoma.

TRD Pro is probably the least number produced each year, followed by V6 access cabs, and double cab long beds.

The lowest price previously owned Tacoma will probably be the easiest to sell. Consider the buyer is comparing a like trim level.

Great points! My thought would be to upgrade my 22 when the 24 comes out. Sure I'd love a limited or TRD Pro, but just wanted to make sure the extra goodies aren't a waste if I'm only keeping the truck for a year or two. I'll keep my 24 for the long haul. See what I'm saying? But it sounds like I can't go wrong with any choice for the most part. PS - it will be a 4 door 5 foot bed, 4x4, automatic.

Because the original owner absorbs the high margin risks of “fully loaded” options, and future buyers are most focused on miles and age, you will make more percent profit on cheaper models.

The ‘22 Pro, in Electric Lime, in Manual - will be a collectors item one day.
I’ll venture to guess the ‘23 Pro with whatever colour they slap on that will also be a collectors.
Last two production 3rd Gen years + rarer [divisive] colours + covid years + some suspension/body changes over all other years.
Auto will also be a collectors but manual+rarity will command higher prices.

There are performance auto sellers up in Canada that have been snagging low mileage Pros and selling them beside their Bentleys, Lambos, and Ferraris.

Not gonna see that with ORs or Sports.

Buy Pro and keep it stock if you’re legit looking for a [relatively poor] ‘investment’.
