I'm looking into getting a 2007+ 3rd row SUV that is decent on gas and not too pricey...$23,000 and below.

I've been looking at the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander and Volvo XC-90, but I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks!

I am looking for the same thing. I looked at a Toyota Highlander yesterday with the 3rd row, and it is very small. The middle seat in the second row didn't even have a seatbelt, so I guess your not even suppose to put a person in the middle. I checked out the 4runner with the 3rd row, and they are awesome! They have a lot of room in the 2nd and 3rd row, and if you don't need the 3rd row seats you can put them down and have lots of room in the back. The Highlander didn't have any room behind the 3rd row, they was up against the back glass. Anyway I'm looking towards the 4runner, hope this helps!

I haven't seen a highlander in person yet, but from the photos it did look kinda small. I'll have to look into the 4-runners, what year did they start making 3rd row seats?

I know two guys whose wives have pilots. One has a base version which I think he paid ~$25k the other has the touring for ~40k. Both really like the vehicles.

Not sure what year they started making them, but I'm sure they probably go back 5 years or more. :notsure:

I can go $25,000 for a 2009, but that touring edition is way too expensive, but very nice!!

Do you own one? I'm looking especially for the crash test ratings since I have 3 kids...I'm gonna do some more research on the 4runner.

    Look at the Acura MDX

Might be a little out of your price range, depending on what you're looking for in terms of creature comforts. My husband has an 06 - bought it new. It's been flawless and the Acura dealer service has been outstanding (he takes it there for all his maintenance).

The 3rd row (2 seats) actually fold down into the floor/cargo area. So, they're out of the way when you don't need 'em (more cargo room). The 2 back seats are smaller and I wouldn't put an adult back there for long trips. I've sat back there for shorter trips, and its not too bad.

We have the touring (I think) that has all the bells & whistles, nav etc. Has a 3.7L V6 and is rated for about 15-20mpg. My husband gets about the same mileage as my tacoma in daily commutes (18mpg). His Acura isn't affected by the winter gas....he consistantly gets 18 throughout the year (unlike my tacoma). AWD and all the traction stuff

Thanks!! I have been looking at those..a little out of my price range though, unless I decide to get an older one. I appreciate your feedback though on how you like it and so on. My kids will be in the back mostly.
I currently have a 2005 Mercedes ML 350, My wife loves it, but we will need more room soon.

That's the only thing I don't like about the volvo. I like the highlander alot, but after reviewing more it does seem that the 3rd row seats are too small and it kills the trunk space when in use, Other than that I like it.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
My parents got a new Highlander, haven't noticed the seat belt issue in the middle seat, but I like that the middle seat from the middle row comes out and stores under the driver's center console to make the middle row captain's chairs for easy access to the rear. I would imagine for anything with a third row in the $23k-25k range you are probably going to have to go used? What about an older Sequioa, I think this is next on our radar, we need more room too.

My friends just got either a Hyundai or Kia, don't remember right off hand, it was pretty nice for the money, lots of bells and whistles, 3rd row, and I would imagine decent on gas.
