I have a 2017 tacoma the year before more technology get introduced. I've been interested in newer technology our trucks have been getting such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and let me know if I missed anything. Are they features worth getting or you could have done with

I wouldn’t buy a new truck just for those features. The lane keep is just an annoying beep and does not do anything to assist you staying in the lane like other vehicles. Adaptive cruise is quite nice to have but again, not worth spending $40k+ to have.

That was one of the reasons I updated from a 2017 to a 2020 (among other things like color and COVID pricing for trade-in). I enjoy the adaptive cruise control but it has its quirks. I got used to the weird things it does and have adapted to it. The lane departure alert has helped me a few times when I'm looking over my shoulder during a merge. I also enjoy having the 360° camera, although the rear view camera quality is actually a step down for those without the 360°.

Basically, if you're like me and enjoy tech, you'll like it. But, knowing what Toyota is moving to, I'd wait until the Tacoma has full speed adaptive range. The new Tundra has it, and I'm sure the Tacoma will eventually.

    Personal choice

    Some folks will rave positive.

Some folks prefer simple systems and are willing to use their mirrors, turn their heads, etc.

You have to chose for yourself.

Don’t like any of it either. When I drive that is what I do I drive and pay attention. Wish more people did.

    All-factory options at this point.
Adaptive cruise is very nice on longer hauls and Interstate, not useful in commute. Ditto for lane assist on long haul trips where drowsiness may be a concern, that being on could be a bonus, but mine's turned off most of the time.

My main reason for looking into something new is because I have the super white color which seems to be known for having paint issues. There was some rust starting to show on the bed. Toyota took care of it a few years back. Then recently I discovered more rust starting. One on the passenger rear door handle and another one on the drivers door foot sill area. Hopefully Toyota is willing to take care of it again. I just don't want to keep having this paint quality issue coming up the longer I own it.

    Enough for now
Blind spot mirrors are nice. I don’t use the other features at all, admittedly the TSS sensor in the grill has kept me from changing the grill out

I used the adaptive cruise control and talk to text once on a road trip. The lane departure warning has been mostly just annoying. The auto headlights are mostly dysfunctional. I don’t have the blind spot monitor. I have used the turn by turn directions on apple car play a few times and that’s nice.

Bought wife a Rav 4 a couple of years ago with all that stuff on it. It all got turned off shortly after. Wish it was an option rather than having to pay for it and not use it.

For what it is worth , I have a 2016 Tacoma with just the blind spot monitoring and back up sensors and I really like them .
We just bought a 22 Rav4 Hybrid that has the lane assist and adaptive cruise etc. So far we feel the lane assist is more of a gimmick with it's own quirkiness and we have it shut off . It wants to follow the roadside white lines and when you drive past a exit ramp , it follows the line and fights the driver when you try to pass by the exit . The adaptive cruise is nice but it also has quirks and I have not used it enough to make a real judgement on it yet. I can say for sure that neither of those features are anything I would trade my truck for a newer model .
I am not sure if the newer Tacoma's will have start stop tech or not and that is a different story . I drove a Highlander (non hybrid) and I hated it big time because of the lag time when starting out . It is very minimal but it is noticeable . Start stop on a Hybrid is a different story . When the Hybrid starts from a stop , it starts out on battery power and the engine kicks in while already moving with no lag at all ,and does not bother me . The immediate torque from the battery is awesome. I read that the Tacoma will be coming in Hybrid form soon and if I "needed" a new truck at that time , I would most likely opt for the hybrid .

I have a 2021 and searched for one without those features, or one that I could permanently turn off. I had all that crap on the two trucks before now. I like simplicity I now know. I'm gonna keep this Tacoma for awhile.

The blind spot monitor is just annoying. Again pay attention to where you are in traffic. I turned it off in my wife’s CX5 when I drive. IMO these doohickeys just let people start to not pay attention so they can Twitter, Facebook text ect when they should be driving. Ok old guy rant over

My Subaru had the same setup as the taco does. I tested it with the Subaru.Seems "nice"... I also never need it want to use it. Maybe for longer trips when the energy drinks wear off? Lol. Never bothered to test it with the taco. Just not for me. :notsure:

I don't look at these like features you should always use or as something I'm going to base my purchase off of. But they do work.

My 2021 Off Road does not have blind spot monitoring. I love it. It also does not have that fucking auto start stop. I love that too.

Auto start/stop (A.S.S.) is a crime against humanity.

I'd be interested in adaptive cruise as I use cruise control a lot. I've driven a few newer Sienna vans and thought it was pretty cool

I have mixed feelings about the blind spot monitor though. After a while you'd probably stop looking over your shoulder, which isn't optimal

The good news is there are devices to plug into the OBDII port that will override it.
