There are different schools of thought on caulking.

When I installed my large patio door on the old house, the double door manufacturer definitely wrote (basically) no caulk on siding ends where it abuts the (as one) casing. The water entry is prevented by the ears under the siding on top of the ply sheeting and house wrap. I have seen this on windows as well.

I back cut the ends of the siding then used that very caulk across the top and both sides before securing the mounting block. It made a nice seal, just not visible. Aside, the light locations are well protected from the weather so I'm not much worried about water intrusion.

First owner actually built this place and the two next door to me, for his kids. He definitely made some interesting choices.

Magic eraser and APC just took it from black to dark blue, should this paint hide it enough?

You might want to hit that spot with Kilz, to ensure the artwork does not bleed through your new paint.

    Primer, primer, primer.

Youve got new drywall so you'll need it anyways. Kilz PVA on the new drywall, 1 or 2 coats Kilz 1(stinks) or 2(no stink, less coverage) on the old painted stuff. Primer is still cheap whereas paint is through the roof so Id rather do more coats of kilz versus buying more paint.

    going to be fun!
When we painted our house interior we did a primer (extreme block from Sherwin Williams) matched to the paint color we used and it turned out phenomenal....

    Agree with above
    KILZ spray bomb the ink
    Lightly sand the kilz
    Sand drywall compound
Prime new drywall (two coats, makes finish go and look much better)
Spot prime your repairs on painted walls (LMAO about nail holes. Been there done that may times over my painting career)
    Pole sand ceiling/walls
Than your good to go for ceiling (not sure what paint you have for ceiling). Flat finish is best for ceilings because it shows less imperfections.
I see you tinted that paint so guessing it for walls
I'll respectfully disagree with one coat hide on that product and not a fan of flat finish on walls. I prefer eggshell finish for general walls and higher sheen for kitchens, bathrooms and trim.
Two finish coats is always best

    Keep up the good work

    Outstanding job!!!!!!!! You're hired

I always prefer to spray cabinets. But if house is occupied it's a balance between how much prep to be able to spray cabinet boxes and doing by brush and roller (And of course what my customer wants. Spray or by hand for cabinet boxes). But I always spray doors and drawer fronts.

AHH what we dads will do for our kids

    God bless us Dads

I think one coat hide is only a thing with the top tier SW and Ben Moore paint. But that stuff is pushing $100 a gallon so its a no bueno for me.

This is going to be effectively a home theater room of sorts so the black paint is for the walls and the ceiling.

It's going to be only ambient/mood lit 90% of the time.

Yes. Primer+Paint does not have the same qualities as an individual primer. Its essentially a marketing ploy. Also, new drywall will suck that up like a sponge.

    Yes

It won't seal out the ink.

KILZ is the way to go for any ink or tough stains

    General walls

Primer and paint products are combining the two jobs and for general previous painted walls it's good. I'm old school and always choose drywall primer/sealer for new drywall. Primer for repairs and a the best finish paint you're able to afford or willing to spend.

Stuck with something easy today or so I thought. Hung a ceiling fan and new light in the kitchen. Ceiling fan went up ok, but the other ceiling light, uhm. Took old fixture down and seen an abundance of electrical tape. WTF? Apparently something at one time got pretty damn hot and some wires are pretty damn crispy. Re-wrapped another wire and let well enough alone right now. Wasn't planning on a re-wire, but here were are :annoyed:

Once we get the 200 amp service in I'll have to shut off that portion of the house and take the wires out of the box in the attic and go from there. Ugh, old houses. Well, atleast it's not aluminum!
