Hi. My 2021 Tacoma Sport will be sitting unused for two months. I but a battery tender on it and it stayed in the red for more than 24 hours without the battery disconnected. Should I just disconnect the battery to play it safe and will I have any issues when I reconnect it ?? Not worried about the radio at all. Thanks

My boat sits unused from October until May every year and only once did it not start. I Replaced that battery and had no issues since. My truck once sat for 3 months unused and started right up. YMMV

Tip: Always make sure your boat starts before unloading it into the river with a strong current and a strong wind. :)

Follow the directions on the charger. Download the manual if you don't have one. Most chargers are designed to maintain the charge regardless if battery cables are connected.

    I’d leave the cables connected.

A relatively new battery should be able to sit 2 months.

Red light indicates battery is 80 percent charged I'd leave it plugged in until you get a green light

As per keeping your battery charged for the 2 months using a Deltran battery tender I see no issues or problems doing so

I use a battery tender on my “other car” every winter and of course start it one every 2-3 weeks and it always starts like I left it. I’d put it on and not worry. It’s a battery tender made to keep your battery charged.

The question is why is the Taco sitting for two months? We demand answer.

Reason it is sitting is we are going to Thailand for two months on travel.
I decided to just leave the Tender on it as a friend will check it for me. If it stays red for more then two days - he will disconnect the Neg. cable and just put the tender on it directly. Battery is less than a year old - and I just thought it odd as it is habit for me on my other vehicles, and the newest one in the crib has me asking questions.

If you would've kept the battery tender hooked up that red light would've turned green or fully charged in another hour

I have a battery tender jr that did the same thing. It was the tender that was the problem. Left it on for 2 days and it was still red. Swapped it out to my other one and good to go.

Mine is used quite often. This is the first that it will sit idle for two months

Switched it out and it worked fine on a good battery. Think I'll consider a battery when I return home.

If you have a 76 Amp Hour battery that's 60% charged, that's 30.4 Amp hours to charge to full. The standard battery tender is 3/4 of an amp hour. It'd take that little charger about 40.5333 (repeating, of course) hours to top off your battery then go into maintenance mode.

Thank-you CountryRoad !! I'm just going to leave it on there and have my friend check on it. Odd that the battery would be down so low after a good drive. Best Regards

    You're welcome!

For some reason, my Toyota's always keep my battery charged at about 80% with the alternator, especially when I take frequent trips under 15 minutes at low speed.

I have a 7.5 Ah NoCo brand "tender" and my battery always takes about 2 hours to top off the battery before going into maintenance mode.

    Hope you have safe travels.
