I think attic floor space is around ~1200sq ft of useable space in this house. Sounds absurd to west coast guys. But this is a normal home for middle class out here. 3-4K sq ft homes that is

The only thing that's weird about that is having usable attic space. Plenty of massive houses out here though

You still couldn’t pay me enough to live around the west coast. No desire to be there. Nor the east coast. Still not sure which is worse. But they both suck in my eyes for anything other than visiting.

I got on an overpass in Indianapolis and was able to see across each state in every direction. Y'all ain't got nothing out there. I always like to say the United States doesn't have an overcrowding issue it's just that no one wants to live in the Midwest.

Comparatively it really is cheap over where he lives. The quality of land is low, but hey it's cheap. Plus you kind of limit your income so relatively speaking it might not be cheap once you're there

Considering the pay in the trades is way up there out here. What I do here on the west coast would end up being the same pay rate. But higher cost of living.

My shops non union. But I still am making over 40 an hour doing line tech work… I mean.. that’s a lot by anyones standards.

I think you like Frank Lloyd Wright design houses. He was from Chicago. The style started in Oak Park IL and spread from there.

    This FLW is in Alabama.

I like being surrounded by a bunch of nothing but I couldn't live in the middle. I've always enjoyed my drives across country and experiencing it. (besides Oklahoma...for me that's the worst stretch of 40. I'm sure its got hidden gems but damn.)
I can hardly even live away from the ocean, tried it twice. If you grow up in the water you're kinda screwed.
Cheapest house in my slice of the area is 1.2m.
    So that's an issue.

    Nice.
BTW Ceilume makes pretty affordable drop ceiling tiles that look good.
I also found that the 2x2 and 2x4 sheets of 1/8 ply from the hardware store fit perfectly and are light enough.

I don't even like hearing the word shiplap...or the phrase, "open concept."
Love well done wainscotting, and beadboard. And proper mid century and shaker furniture.

"Attics are overrated," must be a west coast thing? We have killer attic spaces over here.
Come to think of, none of my CA friends had em. Weird.

We have one here in Virginia Beach, its incredible. Last sold in 2016 for 2.2 which is less than I'd expect. It's a stunner and in a great spot.

North OKC (Nichols Hills) is where the oil barons lived. That's hidden from I40. Old Route 66 did get near it as it wound through town.

The eastern part of Oklahoma (green country) is part of the Ouachitas. People don't get to see that unless they are deliberately driving into the ONL.

I figured if you're purposefully driving somewhere vs just passing through that its got some great spots. Everywhere does. Once when going through Arkansas again, finally got over it / curious, and ended up diverting to Petit Jean. That was a nice break from the interstate on that leg.

I discovered a new road (HWY 9 North) that is just wild.

Calico Rock and Shirley are a throwback to 100 years ago. I really know nothing about this part of the state.

HWY 9 north is like driving an AutoX that lasts for 2 hours. These roads are fun in a sports car.

@01x4 Facebook is listening. So I post on here about Calico Rock and guess what pops up on Facebook.

Its great finding those places you never knew existed.
And that road looks insanely fun!
