Im considering rebuilding my old frame..
New rubber, rims, chain, derailer, cables, bearings.
Basically build a bike from a frame up.

That's a great idea! Only trail I've hit up was Kelso Park a few years ago. I've heard there are good trails near Waterloo

Get this, I ordered a mountain bike for Joudy in June 2021 and it has yet to come...been itching to ride

Yes Waterloo Hydrocut! Definately in the top of what Ontario had to offer. Full progression from beginner to intermediate/advanced there with trails built with that in mind. Well signed and easy to navigate.

    what fucking sorcery is this?
    upload_2022-3-6_19-47-15.jpg
chain stay is on a single pivot with a shock pressing into the downtube
but the pivot is also a sprocket that helps with the fact that the seat stay is removed to get it up and over

quick search on Google; i have this piece of Junk with a Taco'd front rim.

High pivot with a idler pulley! It’s the new norm for many mountain bikes.

I edited that post after you probably quoted it; but this piece of Junk with a Taco'd front rim is what i have.

What exactly is the benefit of "High pivot with a idler pulley"?
because if it's cheaper than fixing up the above - i'll consider a new bike.

That particular set-up in the pic I posted above is also a ‘mullet’ - 29” front wheel 27.5” rear wheel.

Its like a ZJ, if you have to ask you don't want it.

A high pivot single pivot design is a great performing design as it has a rearward axle path. The fatal flaw to it's simplicity is the chain growth and the resulting pedal kick back. The idler at the pivot solves this.

hmm. seems overkill for what i would be asking from a bike. I certainly wont be doing jumps/ drops as steep as the ones he showcases (I understand he's some level of pro at this) but it is a cool idea with how the wheel deflects off of a bump.

so i'll just rebuild mine then lol
a build like that i feel like is an easy 4-digit investment and i could certainly repair my existing one for that sort of coins.

I also have an old Norco hardtail of some sort, i dont think i would be able to find an image of it, which i might consider revising instead of the CCM one above.
what sort of trails would we even hit? I dont have any concept other than walking part of the Bruce trail.

Most of it is for everyday riders. Much like off-roading stuff. Rider skill and line choice will win over expensive flashy stuff all day long. There’s people on old school hardtails that’ll do LAPS around people who show up with Yeti’s, Evil’s, Transition’s, Commencal’s, YT’s, and etc..
You’ll be fine on the CCM, just give it a good tune up. There are plenty of trails that you’ll be able to rip on.
Ride with people that emphasize having fun and building skill at your pace, not pushing you past your limits to the point you’re not enjoying yourself anymore.

Oh wow! That takes a while, but yes Hydrocut is where I and @tacoma16 go in the summer, we go to Hilton Falls in the winter. Going to be hitting more often this summer for sure as I moved closer. We should setup bike rides there too. :bikewheelie2:

thanks for the heads up. IMO i've not heard of any of those other brands but i'm well aware of the skill of the rider versus the amount of money you threw into it.

I've done the Minnesing Bike trail's 1st and 3rd loop once and the old-railway bike trail more times that i can count and i've commuted to school on a bike for 5-6 years so i have some idea of what i'm getting into. just been out of the loop since taco-ing the front wheel and spraining my arm...
But yeah, i might be heading up to get my bike this week from the storage shed and size it and assess what needs to be fixed.

how hard are parts to get for bikes?
