Large piece of metal found in my rear differential...I'm a bit pissed at Toyota's quality

I am probably more oompa loompa than you know! Haha.

The truck is about two weeks old in the photo and I decided to do Crystal Geyser Jeep Safari Route and ended up on something else. I went up a decent ledge and decided to look under the truck to see what's up there. I'm glad you caught on the the irony of my post.

Nothing is broken, the diff has 100,000km warranty, relax.

 

Synthetic diff oils …will it be better? I had water leak in my rear diff …diff air vent ..not closing due to mud…cost me $4,100 for a new third member..2019 TRD…at least I know I got new gear oils ..done by Toyota dealer..

You paid WAY too much!

 

Most likely you are correct…my Tacoma was already there for brakes ..because it would lock up..as I drove forwards…the E-brakes would lock…drive in reverse it would become free…later a in a few days the brakes would lock up again..
They thought they fix the problem of the brakes and the mechanic could heard a noise in the rear end…they found lots of water…and quote me a price ..which was lower…but after purchasing the parts …which was higher then expected…. I knew I would pay more at the dealers….
Well …it may be easier & cheaper for some people , but we are limited here..on a island …

A case of water at our Kona,Hawaii Walmart cost $5.00 …I am sure you can get it cheaper? Average price of a home in Hawaii is over $800,000, I am sure where you live is cheaper…. Could I got my Tacoma rear end done cheaper? Maybe? Lol

my Brakes are still locking up…I did talk to the Toyota Manger…he will try to get his mechanic to correct the problem…most likely the E- brakes cable are freezing up and not releasing…possible it may need lubricant? Or replacement….?
I will find out on March 9, when it goes back in for the third time?..

Average house where I live is 1.3 million now. Gas is 1.96 per Liter (nearly $6 a gallon converted from Canadian to USD)

A 6 pack of beer is $15 and a 26 ounce bottle of Vodka is $30.

It’s not cheap where I live I can promise you that!

 

Lower mainland and Vancouver island are on of the most expensive places in the world. My 760 sq.ft. 1BR abs den condo in surrey, which is not even in the city, costs 570k… Average house price is about 1.4-1.5 mil.

If houses were 800k here, I would’ve bought one long time ago.

I’m too lazy to look up what chemicals are used in diff oil but I’m assuming there’s a ton of sulfur in it given the smell. Man that shit will stink for days

 

It is like a high speed washing machine in diffs… and that recommended ever 50,000 miles , also because the oil can run low too…

I work on severe duty cycle commercial vehicles. And it gets changed at the 120,000kms mark. Pretty rare we have diff failures. Usually have 2 engines and a transmission failure before the diff.

 

Not familiar at all with that trail, hell I'm barely familiar enough with what's up here. Most people in my area just follow a forest service road and track through clear cuts for fun.

 

If it's the e-brake it's mechanical, big cable. Might have a kink in the line somewhere or they didn't clip it in properly on one or both drums. Honestly when you find you have a problem and it isn't covered by warranty... Ditch the dealer and find a good independent shop that you or people you know trust.

 

Better hope for uniforms and laundering provided if you're a tech LOL.

 

Those chunks are normal. For as long as I’ve worked at the dealer even the second gens had them on their first services on occasion
