Alright, I'll pick up some Kilz primer/sealer then, add another day to the project I guess...

    :bananadead:

I really want to start moving into there and start setting everything up but do it right the first time instead of again later after being annoyed long term.

Much easier now before everything is mounted to walls and such right?

I did mask off the window and put joint compound to fill the gouges from popcorn removal, need to sand it smooth then two coats of kilz drywall primer/sealer all around then I can go blackout?

I did 2 on mine. 1 heavy coat may do it, the joint compound sucks it up more than the drywall so go until you cant see the white spots anymore.

Sorry didn't want to add to your work load
Best to do it right the first time

    Yes sand the drywall compound
    Apply the primer/sealer
    Lightly sand walls/ceiling after primer
    Apply finish coats

    A tip

    First coat
Roll first on surfaces (get close to corners as possible)
    Then cut in with brush

    Second
    Cut first then roll

    Helps save time

Nah I want to do it as best as I can; this is going to be a studio of sorts I will spend a lot of time in and hopefully can make some money with it needs to be done as professionally as possible if that means a little more work so be it, still saving lots of money doing it myself.

Sanding this afternoon, may put up the quarter round for the lighting too, probably best to do so before painting as it needs painted as well.

Got to paint the furniture too.

Supposed to rain hard all this week starting tomorrow.

Running back to the depot to pick up this stage of things, when you say lightly sand would that be about 200 grit? Or just minimal passes with like 120?

    KILZ2 should be enough?

Think I'll do one coat on the walls and two coats on the ceiling, should I sand the existing paint on the walls? I cleaned them real good with diluted APC and a magic eraser then wiped them down further with a damp rag.

Somebody said something about spray bombing with kilz, I thought it rolled on like paint? I'm not set up to spray it. I might be able to borrow a spray rig from my uncle, should I wait and do that or can I just roll it?

Im rolling on some Kilz 2 this afternoon. Does great on a roller, 3/8 nap is what Ive got. 2 coats should work for you, Im doing 3 since Im hiding some super dark paint.
    IMG_20220306_180858784.jpg

I highly recommend Kilz PVA for the new drywall. Kilz 2 will work, but you'll need a lot of coats.

The 'spray bomb' may have been a reference to the oil based Kilz primer spray can. The oil based sticks/blocks better but stinks more. Small spray areas for stains with this don't stink as bad as doing the whole room with oil based.

I don't know if it matters or not, but it's not really new drywall, I'd assume it's from 1995 like the rest of the house, I just stripped it down bare because I couldn't stand the popcorn ceiling in the room I'm going to be spending my most time in.

Id still probably do PVA primer on it. You stripped it down to bare paper. The PVA (poly vinyl acetate) is essentially a layer of plastic/rubber that seals all the pores on the gypsum. Its like painting with glue, but anything else will just soak in and require more coats than you wanna do to cover it.

    For sandpaper
Start with 100 or 120 and then move to a finer grit like 220 or 440. The courser sand paper will take the bulk material. The higher grit will smooth everything out.

Filled /sanded / painted the baseboards where I removed the door stoppers (boooiiiiinnnnggggg). Came out good enough that I'll be the only one to know what was where. Replaced them with these magnetic popup thingys. Like them so far, needed the "hold open" feature as the wind blows the bedroom door closed. With these new solid core doors that slam was big! Need to scrape the over spray off the floors but it's behind a bookshelf so *shrug*

    20220307_100046.jpg

Got the 1st coat of chalkboard paint put on the coat closet door. Will need a 2nd coat but I'm looking forward to the results.

Yesterday I sawed the base of a stump that was around 18" with my 80V chainsaw. The chain got VERY hot, but still did fine. This is with the 6AH battery, then II popped the battery out, put it my stick blower (I have the backpack blower as well) - I then used the blower as a bellows for my huge wettish burn pile. Made an induction hole, locked in the blower a a medium low blow, set it down and tended the fire while I tilled my garden plots. The heat was INTENSE in the glory hole. Glassified the dirt in any sod clods. Blower ran a LONG time (over and hour), then I swapped in a 2A, and so on. Nothing left of burn pile and hardly much smoke. Winning.

Tilled the main garden plot and the flower garden plot with my Troy Built horse bought new in the 1980's. Well maintained, ran perfectly!
