    Ya, me too.

Thanks for chiming in. Now, at least I know I'm not shooting in the dark.

This truck is kind of turning in to a fucking basket case. It's my son's. He got it for cheap because it was salvage due to a front end collision. The frame is sound and we've replaced just about everything on the front end (steer/suspension).

But now it appears that it wasn't well maintained, on top of the collision stuff, and now shit keeps popping up.

have you pulled the starter? Might need a rebuild. Mine was doing pretty weird things before I rebuilt it. Pretty cheap fix

Starter rebuild is on the list of things we are going to look at.

But I don't think this is starter in this situation. Because when we turn the key the engine has no trouble cranking, it just wont fire. This is telling me this is a fuel related issue, rather than a starter issue.

At least that's my thought process, it may be flawed here.

I would think a starter issue would cause it not to even try and crank.

We pulled the throttle body and pulled the IACV now.

The IACV is really dirty with carbon deposits. The throttle body is pretty gummy too.

We're on our way to O'Reilly to see if we can get an IACV gasket and throttle mounting gasket, for now... to be replaced again (OEM) when we do the valve covers (relatively soon).

Wonder if it's related to leaky injectors dumping too much fuel that prevents it from starting when warm, by the time it cools off the excess fuel has evaporated and it starts fine. At least I've heard that's one symptom of leaky injector(s). Sounds like the IAC is def worth looking at though

New lower ball joints from Toyota... Over 400, no joke. Never going to buy from my local dealer again.

Then when doing the joints my driver's tie end rod was busted, so had to run and get a new one. Took forever to get the old one off-- had to get the torch out.

    Getting an alignment tomorrow.

Is there any need to reset the ECU if I just replaced my TB with a used one? I’m still using the same IACV. Sending mine into maxbore for rebuild. Borrowing someone’s spare till I get mine back.

McGeorge is hands down the best source for those of us (like me) that have local Toyota dealerships run by money grubbing assholes.

    Well, fuck :annoyed:

Throughly cleaned TB and IACV (also tested IACV that's it's operating).

Put everything back together and it fired right up. At a lower RPM (was idling at about 1700 before we did this).

When it warmed up, the RPMs started climbing again. We shut it off, waited a few minutes, tried to crank it...

Doing the same fucking thing it was doing before.

I've seen a few write ups about leaking injectors. I have never seen a fast idle listed as a symptom. Rough idle, hard start when engine is hot, but not specically fast idle.

Not saying this is not the problem, saying I'm wondering if I'm dealing with multiple problems.

I wish I was doing the projects I need to do on my truck... it's so much f'n easier.

hot cranking issues ive had on 3.4ls usually end up being fuel injectors leaking down when off. which in turn flood a cylinder and makes them a bitch to start or a hot start misfire.

as for the high idle the throttle bore may be worn a and allowing excess air past. when you pull the throttle off to the clean the IAC see if the plate is sealing good to the bore.

whatever you do. DO NOT buy EBAY or AMAZON "OEM" injectors.. i constantly have trucks coming in with "new oem" injectors and they're fuel trims are 20-30% because they're cheap counterfeits

Ok, so I think my next play is to looking in to getting these injectors rebuilt.

Eventually, I think I'm going to buy a set of injectors, since we both have the 5VZ-FE (and I do have future plans of building yet another truck with a 5VZ-FE)

Also. I did check the butterfly when I was cleaning the TB. It functioned smoothly with no obstructions (once cleaned, it was pretty gummy, when it came off). The butterfly had almost no gap between it and the bore (less gap then there is on mine, and mine fuctions well). The gap was no more than you would expect between a metal part that has to move within another metal part. Any less gap and the butterfly would stick.

the one other thing is that set screw for the throttle stop can work itself loose and end up leaving the throttle just barely cracked open @what road had his do that. and after swapping the IAC is when i noticed it.

I thought about that. I was pushing on the throttle linkage arm (towards closed) and there is no movement.

Also, a few minutes ago we got it to fire up and it was at exactly the right idle speed. We were letting it run for a few minutes. After a few minutes, it randomly raised the idle from 7-800 to 15-1700 without any input from us. (didn't touch the throttle arm or pedal) it wouldn't come back down even with my trying to push the throttle arm towards closed, or even by bumping the thottle and hoping it came back down.

Would the throttle position sensor have something to do with this?

Also, since the idle is so high, when we turn it off. Could there be excess fuel in the chamber left over... making it act like leaking injectors? (hard to start, after it was running)

I am now, literally, thowing spit balls here.

Shouldn’t be excessive fuel left over from high idle. TPS also shouldn’t really cause any issue. I’m sure you’ve done it, but have you disconnected the battery for a while and then see if it runs any better? Without actually being there without a computer hooked up there’s not much more I can think of

Disconnected battery... no joy. Bitch wont start. We're going to let it set for a while and see if excess fuel disappates. (acting like it's flooded)

So... looking for recommendations on where to get the fuel injectors serviced.

My thought is to buy some used OEM injectors (salvage yard) and have them serviced. Then have these serviced, so I have a set of spares.
