    Howdy folks,
My 04 has two separate horns and I’m confused. Do first gens have one or two horns?

The connectors for the horns have one wire and two wires which are both black. How do I tell them apart? Which one goes where? This is way above my skill and knowledges

the 2 wires going to the horn are +, and then they ground through their mounting. Shouldn’t matter which is plugged to which horn

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    I 2nd this answer !

Grill clips = cable ties in my case.

You might get them from your dealer if the newer ones are the same.

Why does one of my horns have two horns going out of it while the other just has one?

Dunno, maybe that’s an 01-04 change. Mine had one that would have been at home on a moped

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
the one with 2 wires is just taking the single wire and splicing out to the other connector. saves money and harness real estate vs running 2 separate wires in the entire harness for the horns

Don't buy the cheap no-name chinese grille clips. Some are thicker or thinner and because of this they don't clip and hold good.
So if you are lucky, you will get a bag with ones that clip ok. If not, you will only have one or two in the bag that are usable

The horn brackets may be a bit different. It's common on Toyota dual horn systems to have what's called anti-rotation features on the bracket. It just keeps the horn from rotating while it's being tightened to the vehicle. The bracket feature is a brace against the torque when the bolt gets tight.

Won't affect the function of the horn as far as sound if they are reversed. If one horn has a white paint dot or the anti-rotation features are different, then they are unique. If not, generally they are universal left to right.

I have replaced the horns on both my trucks so can't confirm, but just look for tabs on them and see how they mate to the body.

Horns and washer pumps pretty much a given on all the Toyota 4x4`s that pass through my hands.

My dual horns mount on the frame around the radiator. Bottom one is a bitch to takeoff , unless you want to remove the grill. I used the old clips for the new horns.

None, why mess with a good thing
I have to laugh, never made the connection, but you are so correct. My original transportation was a Motobécane Moped and you are spot on that's how it sounded.
    - Personally I am in the process of changing my 00 Tacoma's button horn to a "1 PCS 300DB Super Train Horn for Trucks SUV Car-Boat Motorcycles 12V Vehicle Universal", having a dog of a time getting it to fit behind the grill. Think I am in for disappointment regardless
    Appreciate the smile though...

95-00 are one tone “meep meep” (one horn)

01-04 are two tone “honk honk” (two horns)

Years ago I upgraded my 98 to an 01-04 set up. No more “meep meep.”

    On upper R apron/fender support
There are some ‘dead panel’ screw holes not needed for my model. Typical 10mm
I used the original horn mount on radiator support (backwards) for the front most horn
