I worked for almost 16 years part time in a parts department for a Harley Davidson dealership and can relate to everything you're saying. While online ordering has become a way of life it's often a total PITA for dealership staff. We always required 50% on any special order parts and 100% up front for painted parts. Restocking fees for returns killed any profit you might have made when the customer didn't know or understand if an accessory wouldn't fir their application or couldn't be used with another already installed item. I get that we're all getting used to same or next day delivery but that Amazon business model is going to be the death of smaller stores and shops with knowledgeable staff.

BTW, the same keystrokes to discount a price for a loyal customer or someone dropping a ton of money could also work in reverse and be used to increase a price for an uncooperative entitled prick.
