After installing a roof top tent on the Diamondback (using frontrunner bars/legs) i felt it was compressing the gasket too much and also made the tailgate hard to open. I was afraid i was putting too much strain on the handle when opening.

So, i bought some small aluminum bar (1/4x1/2 or such. Not sure) and cut it for length. I stacked them so that the height was right and placed besides the gasket just to limit how far the gasket would compress. It helps to transfer the weight when the roof top tent is in place. I remove them otherwise.

Quite a few things at this point..
Got my HD cover installed today! Was super easy, barely an inconvenience. I've got the Front Runner rack system on order, but still a couple weeks out. Voodoo bars are temporarily staying till then.

    Looks awesome!

If you don't mind, would you be willing to measure from the center of the center section of your diamondback to the back of the top of the cover?

I appreciate it, was looking for the long bed measurements though.

Thanks, so it looks like the measurement I'm looking for for the Long Bed is 37 inches.

Yup, 37” is what you want. Let me know if there’s anything else you need.

I think that covers it. Thanks! I'm trying to figure out if I can make the taller DB Front Runner rack work with my whitewater kayaks standing on their sides. My hope is the bows will be high enough to clear the back of the cab. For structural strength, I think the front bar needs to be in the middle section (C), and then the back bar probably close to the end of the cover (D). the 58" Front Runner rack will hold about 4 whitewater boats (200ish lbs).

I scrolled back a couple of months and didn’t see anything about this, so figured I would share. I don’t have a Diamondback but some of you all may find it interesting.

I met Mike from LLOD a couple weeks ago at a show and Diamondback was displaying their new prototype that he helped them design. Pretty cool stuff.

You met Mike? That's awesome! Also that Diamondback cover is actually really slick. I would be worried about the load on the bedside if someone had their DB fully loaded with a bed rack and RTT though.

Yep! I chatted with him for about 20 minutes, it was awesome because I’ve been a fan of his for years. He’s super nice and down to earth in person.

I’m with you on the concern about an RTT and all that. I guess it would depend on what hardware you use to mount the gear. Those are the standard front runner racks.

    Since this is about mods..

Added a light inside. Used velcro to mount it. Made 2 locations for the light to be attached. Works great!

Almost done with my rack for my HD cover. Endless possibilities with this rack on it. Really love it!

Finally, after a year of waiting and Yakima and Thule tracks being out of stock… I’ve started installing the rack as per @xkyo23’s write up. Only managed to get one side done, gotta wait for another nice day to come along:

It's actually an idea @woodlandtaco approached me with, and I designed and manufactured :)
