Yeah that's about the timeline I was thinking. So if the 6 month estimate is correct I could very likely be screwed. :annoyed: Fingers crossed.

Those numbers are right. Toyota sold most Tacomas ever last year:

    2005 168,811
    2006 178,351
    2007 173,238
    2008 144,653
    2009 111,824
    2010 107,198
    2011 110,705
    2012 131,753
    2013 159,485
    2014 155,041
    2015 179,562
    2016 191,631
    2017 198,124
    2018 245,659
    2019 248,801
    2020 238,805
    2021 252,490

YTD numbers are 20% behind 2021 numbers so unless something changes, this year will be way lower.

I wonder if dealers and manufacturers may
simple math states they built just over 692 Tacomas a day, given a 365 day work year of a model year production. At what point did they go to the just in time model of production?

Not sure that information is published, but I worked in the industry in the 1980s through the early 2000s and JIT was a fact of life for every auto manufacturer I worked with by 1990.

Toyota invented jit as part of the Toyota production system and it typically refers to a production model where materials for production of goods are delivered in a fashion that doesn’t require an excess of inventory which is wasted space, money and movement of materials. Logistics can have similar issues and models but the challenges for them are different especially right now with trucker and transportation challenges. Also, we don’t know whether your vehicle has been selected for qc or if there has been a non confirming part identified which can add substantial time as well while doing rework or validation that the nonconformity doesn’t cause issues

I finally got a hold of a salesperson at Sheehy Fredericksburg in VA. He said they sell all their vehicles at MSRP but that you have to buy this "ResistAll" interior and exterior protection package for $1300. Has anyone dealt with something similar? I know there are a few folks in this thread that said they have deposits with them.

The package sounds pretty worthless to me so I may end up taking my business elsewhere.

Thank You. Would be just my luck that MINE could be chosen for QC.
At least I would know the truck is perfect whenever it does leave there.

My dealership said something similar initially (I put my deposit down the last week in January). I said I had no interest in that package ( our local rust proofing company has a first responder/.mil discount if you go through them vs dealership ), and to my surprise they agreed to drop it. It would have added $1400 to the cost of my truck. I wasn’t willing to pay for the extra stuff like predator steps and aftermarket treatments. In my book, msrp is expensive enough without a couple grand of unwanted extras thrown in.

I have ResistAll on my Tundra and the dealer I'm getting my Pro Taco from says they add it to every vehicle they sell, but their price is $799. Whatever they say my trade is worth, I'm gonna tell them to find another $799 somewhere.

I was going to work with Sheehy in Stafford if they could have gotten me a Pro allocation. I bought my 2017 from them, so I reached out to my salesman (Bill Fredericks, great guy) from back then to see what he could do. No Pro allocations, so I asked him about what I had already ordered here in Hawaii (OR M/T) just to see if he could get me one sooner. Ended up not going with them since the timeframe was similar.

All that being said, the quote he gave me was MSRP only...no add-ons or "required" protection purchases. Might be worth it to reach out to them? Even though Stafford and Fredericksburg are technically the same dealership, maybe they operate a bit differently on the little things? Just throwing it out there.

Back when I first place an order, they pull a 2k addendum(protection) on me too. You can negotiate to drop that completely or some. I was able to get them to drop it before signing and put a deposit.

I'm sure I can find it here somewhere but does anyone know how to find the status of a truck with a VTN vs a vin. when i first made the deal the salesman said the tuck will be in any day. When I asked for the vin #he said he's never been asked for one. I said show me your inventory screen. one screen showed in transit one week ago, the current one didn't even have the truck listed. talked to the GM he said its at yard processing and gave me a VTN # said eta April 5-9

i downloaded the Toyota app but I cant add it with out a vin #

Dealer I had a deposit with added 3k "market adjustment" and a $499 package and $995 package I was told weren't optional. The did drop the unwanted add ons (steps, lights, etc), decent trade in + a $1K discount which would have been great had they not negated all of it with the add-ons. Found another more to my preference at another dealer with no mark ups or add-ons.

A few others I checked with said no market adjustment but the "packages" were anywhere from $1299 to about $4K. Just gotta find a good one or just refuse and see what happens.

Opposite - Stafford wanted to charge that mandatory $1,200 paint protection package two weeks ago. I refused to pay it and walked out of the dealer.

Interesting, and that is unfortunate. I stand corrected. Perhaps I was getting a bogus quote, or he was helping me out for being a return customer? Who knows...
