I was just looking at injectors in the yard today thinking "I wonder if I should grab these?".

If they're hard top find out there I could be talked into going back. Not sure when I'll have time though.

I think the next two steps I'm going to take are

Look in to having the fuel injectors serviced.

Then possibly replacing the fuel pressure regulator.

I have read on TW, and tried with success on a 2.7L, that the following procedure should be used when you think flooding is the problem: press accel to floor, turn key on/off - on/off - on-off, remove foot from accel. Supposedly, done without a pause it signals the ECU to not fire the injectors for some number of revolutions.

Obviously doesn't fix your problem, but if it starts, at least you have confirmation it was flooded.

My Dad's 2.7L has a fuel pump <10,000 miles and it has the "hard to start when hot" syndrome. He's tried this procedure and it works for his truck. My 2.7L takes 3-4 extra revolutions when it's up to operating temp and sits for 10-20 minutes. If it sits less or more, starts right up.

Yes definitely ready for new tires! I swear ko2s won’t wear past that point, the rubber just gets super hard and cracked from age. Yours seems to be doing that.

For some reason the receipt I got from les schwab didn’t have the miles from when installed so I’m not entirely sure. They’ve been for 4 years tho. Toyo AT2s

8A02F865-4DA1-459C-8241-747262FAD6BC.jpg I’ve done the same thing to my hood. I used regular flat black paint, not plasti dip. Gonna be doing the roof soon to cover up the peeling clear and faded out green.

My son’s ex-girlfriend bought a 98 4 runner in the fall. It was running like shit. He started throwing different parts on with no luck. We had a local Mobil mechanic we know look at it and he said the fuel injectors were bad. She bought all new ones and we installed them. The thing runs awesome now. I see her every once in awhile and I always ask her how it’s running. She’s still saying it’s as smooth as can be. I’d definitely go the injector route. Maybe debris got through the filthy fuel filter and screw one or more of the injectors up. Just a thought. Good luck!

Could be something as simple as corroded Battery cables (you wont be able to see the actual wires without peeling the insulation back) - seems to be a thing that pops up on these gen1 Tacomas. If not fuel injector I'd look at the electrical

Alternatively, thermostat? - wondering when the last time yall did timing belt / thermostat/ water pump / pulley/tensioner etc
