OK long story short I purchased a used 2017 Tacoma drove it off the lot and in the same day, had a check engine light. It was diagnosed with a bad head.Vehicle had 52k miles.

I did not take that vehicle as they reimbursed me with a model UP and another Tacoma 2018 that had 35,000 miles.

Now fast forward and this vehicle has been in the shop for the past two months with the same issue bad Head Gasket /value Train issues.

I was supposed to get this vehicle back a few days ago. now they’re saying everything got put back together and they are having compressions issues.

Really sucks I can’t lemon law them I purchased used from a major dealer.

but this is getting absolutely absurd and ridiculous, I bought Tacoma because of the brand reputation of reliability.

anyone ever experience anything like this? should I be furious and demand another vehicle?

Or just wait again I mean what’s another month or two I’ve already waited to two.

Will this be truck ever be the same?

    sorry first language not English.

Not to be a smart ass but it’s probably from a previous owner who didn’t do a proper break in. It’s important but most will say nay..

Nah for some reason the 17-18 models randomly get a fuel trim imbalance code, it really throws techs for a loop. Very hard to diagnose. Sometimes it's injectors, sometimes it's cylinder heads.

He hasn't even really cited what the actual problem is.

Proper break in only ever heard of that with Outboards.

This is second one with 35k was a lease and everything maintenances through the dealer.

just really odd I’ve managed to find 2 Tacomas that reach 50k miles and have Bad Heads.

DEALER basically said bad Head/compression issues I know that’s vague but it’s what I got told .

I know it’s a big job many things can be bad and or complicated but damn guess I’m one unlucky SOB.

It should be under Warranty so at least it will be taken care of and you can get plenty of trouble free future miles.

Maybe post a pic of the diagnosis from the dealer? Or both diagnoses? Covering the personal details etc.

Yes under warranty thankfully. And I have the platinum coverage also so there’s that.

I’m just worried I know HeadGasket are serious and basically symptoms of a failing engine And it could be a whole number of other issues that caused it.

guess It’s true they don’t make stuff like the old days.

let’s say they redo the whole engine and it comes out right this engine should be basically close to new ?

What’s the fix for the trim imbalance? Just verify fuel pressure and clear it?

Since you bought from a big Toyota Dealer and it had all its maintenance done there it should be a Certified Used which should have 100k Warranty unless you bought additional coverage too. Either way l wouldnt worry about it as you will be covered, if you dont end up trusting the truck you can always sell it as you wont lose any value.

There have been a bunch of folks with head/valve issues on the 3.5 motor. You definitely aren't the only one.

Not necessarily. The dealer has to pay a pretty penny to have it certified.

Yes that’s the big issues now I’m losing trust in the vehicle.

Crazy predicament because I always wanted a Taco and absolutely love the Truck .

At least it will hold of value like you said.

my whole family has had Tacomas no issues and I’ve had chevy finally made the switch and I get two duds SMH.
