What a dumb fucking thing to say in the midst of global supply chain issues, a pandemic, historical inflation, sky rocketing housing costs, and now gas costs.

It is what it is I guess! For those that have a long commute and no choice in the matter, I do feel for them. Do what you can (combine trips, use public transportation of that is an option, etc), but if you gotta drive you are going to have to pay da man!

If there’s a silver lining to be found maybe there will be less people out in the national forests and parks this year… I only kid, sort of.

Problem is oil prices are set by the global market so if Europe gets 40% of their oil/gas from Russia then suddenly they'll need to buy other sources and bid up the prices. Add in market speculation and prices go bonkers so even if we keep all the oil here to serve ourselves it's still $130 a barrel. Plus it doesn't help everyone in the global governments attack the oil industry so there is ZERO chance of investment hence less oil reserves and aging refineries etc.

Also I should note, different source of crude have different properties so we may still need to buy/export to get the mix of crude we need for gas/diesel/petrochemicals etc. There is sweet crude, sour crude, hot and sour crude =)

It would be wise to ride share with other employees in this environment.

I don't. I can afford it do I like paying it not really but I'm not gonna sit and complain about it every day all the time. I've got other things to worry about honestly. Like the stock market and my bitcoin investments going haywire.

I've been thinking about getting rid of my wife's prius, but with the car industry and gas prices, NOPE. It's staying put for at least a year or 2. Hell the value of our 2017 has gone up from 15k last year to 20k now on carvana.

So without getting too far into it. The price of oil is very speculative and is set on open markets. The threat of war has large implications throughout Europe and right now there is a lot of uncertainty in whats going to happen with Russia. Because of this uncertainty there is a lot of volatility in the oil market causing the crazy prices you see now. On top of that, we have not had any definitive actions taken by OPEC yet (which they probably will) OPEC wants to keep demand steady, they don't want oil getting too expensive (they had this problem in the 70's and have learned from it) they will PROBABLY step in at some point and increase supply on their side to stabilize prices if they don't go down by themselves. Sooo even though it doesn't directly effect the US because oil is interconnected and the import export and refinery is complicated, a threat in Europe has a ripple effect into our markets (US, Canada, Mexico) and in return, everyone's prices go up for a bit.

I have that problem too, though not for as long. You just need studded tires or take the sled to work. I have never bothered to figure out gas mileage on any of my sleds but you’ll get to work with way more fun and some sweet two stroke cologne.
