I texted my CFO and told her I should celebrate 308 day by ordering an optic for it……….no response yet

Ok I am still looking at optics. Remember my usage will be to hunt with mixed with some longer range shooting and defense in case SHTF. I figured out I just can't handle a FFP optic on lower powers as the reticle is just too small.
I am pretty set on the Swampfox Hostile engagement mount
I have narrowed it down to 2 completely different sights
The Swampfox arrowhead 1-10 with the MILRAD reticle of which the center illuminates th only negative is I will have to learn to use MIL
The other is the Bushnell Engage 2.5-10x44 non illuminated with the MOA reticle and eventually add an RMR green dot for close up needs

@OnePuttBlunder I know you have first hand experience with the Arrowhead with the MILRAD so input is welcome I have the Arrowhead with the bdc reticle
The other thing is I could order the Bushnell from Amazon and if I can't see the reticle very well in the woods I could return it

    @Casper66

Good timing finally getting unpacked after range day.

    1-10 Arrowhead mil dot
    Not illuminated
    1x

    10x not illuminated

    1x illuminated

    10x illuminated
    20220326_213242.jpg

As mentioned before acceptable Jack of all trades master of none set up. Without going into pros and cons of FFP vs SFP

Pros price and glass clarity at price point
Out punches it's class there. Biggest pro.

Reticle is good draws eye to center easily at 1x for quicker shots. Illumination is good

Knobs have good enough feeling clicks when dialing.

Seems like a well made optic and the hostile engagement mount is solid

    Cons
Lack of zero stop which with a mil dot reticle vs bdc makes dialing for precision a trickier game and easy to lose zero unless you're careful.

Close 2nd con eyebox and eye relief are both tight. The adjustable PRS lite stock helps her but still easy to lose eye relief at 10x

Center dot is a hair too big at 10x for me

    Edit
For my SOLGW build I'll eventually go with a 1-6 but I'll be going something higher end with a more forgiving eye box for sure. I struggle with the 1-8 on my ar15 even more because I don't have an adjustable cheek riser

Ran the Aero reasonably hard today finished off the last of my ammo inc 150gr .308 it was one of the worst shooters on paper coming back 4+moa

I don't know if it's just me shooting the new off it more but ammo inc still sucked at 100 today but at 200 it was 19/20 on the 5 inch plate at 200.
Still have the occasional fail to feed 3 out of 100 rounds today though.

Shoot .378 group and a. 41 group with my buddies AI 308 that had been giving him some accuracy issues and was sent back. He wanted to do some barrel testing and load testing so I was happy to help.

Did you shoot the Federal Power shock 150’s or the other federal 150's yet?
I'm still kinda torn on these optics I am seriously considering ordering the Bushnell and seeing what I think. If I can see the reticle easy enough in the woods to occasionally hunt with. If I don't like it send it back. I haven't bought a Bushnell for anything but rimfire in a long time. All my deer rifles have Leupolds on them. I can't find a decent Leupold I can afford though.
I enjoy my arrowhead with the bdc reticle on my ar about the only issue I have had is that the eyebox is a little tight. I have even thought about just getting another one of these and throwing that on there and washing my hands of it.

I have the powershock is the 150gr winner at 1moa

I'm not going to do any more accuracy testing until the sandman clears atf then I'll tune it and settle on rounds of choice

RE your optic sounding like something 3-18 as a main and offset red dot as close in may be a better solution for you.

Not a high priority for me now as the Arrowheads are serviceable but I could definitely see both being replaced in the future

Have you looked at any of the newer Bushnell offerings? After their joining with Bausch and Lomb and Weaver it looks like they’ve stepped their game up but I have no first hand knowledge. They do offer a 4-16x44 in the Engage line

I haven't but on the SOLGW going higher end 1-6 maaayyyybeee 1-8 LPVO priority on it will be eye box forgiveness given the nature of a 13.9 inch 5.56. 6x would cover max realistic range for it. Thinking Gen 2 razor hd nightforce sig tango 6 the new Leupold coming out and one of the Trijicons.
The Aero 308 could end up with a 1-10 version of what I put on the 5.56

So what roll are you fitting the 308 into? I'm still kinda at the battle rifle / dmr type roll with occasional hunting which is why I have been a little confused about which otic is going to serve me best. I just sat down and picked the computer up to order the HE mount but I'm still on the fence about the optic. I have ben about to the point where I was just going to say F'it and order another Arrowhead with the BDC. I'm seriously thinking about just ordering the 4-16 scope and see if I can see the reticle if so i'm ok with that

Battle rifle with precision as secondary(for range time)
I prefer FFP on non 1x only optics so the future 1-10 will likely be FFP with the 1x size basically used as red dot. Then zero stop feature to dial for precision

Oh if my eyes could only see a ffp reticle. I couldn't see it at 6x so I will just stay SFP
