Davey Allison's 1990 Ford Thunderbird. I wish they'd bring back the color-coordinated headlight cowls rather than headlight decals.

Maybe? I think I just started paying attention when I was really young. Was lucky enough to have some neat access at a young age.

NASCAR has always been extremely supportive of the Special Olympics! I joke, I joke!! I have been a fan since the late 80's. Twas a different time.

I believe last year the cars were jacked up a little more than normal to help with this. I agree that I'd rather see a regular Bristol race. I think Bristol dirt is a good start and I'd love to see more cup cars on dirt, but maybe at a regular dirt track in the future and not at Bristol.

IIRC Bristol was going to lose their Spring date due to poor attendance and refusing to comply to the 80% of max capacity ticket sale rule, so the dirt deal was their Hail Mary. Though I dislike the Cup dirt racing there and prefer a true dirt track, it was a pretty savvy business move.

Why would you want to see cup cars on dirt? Winston cup is not dirt racing. No part of these machines were designed for a dirt track. If you want to see dirt racing then watch dirt. It’s the equivalent of a top fuel car on an oval. Furthermore it is not a discipline that 95% of the driver have. These are all things that make it a gimmick. I just don’t get it. I attribute it to a newer generation that enjoys watching rich kids on YouTube buying a new Lamborghini and running it down the rubicon. I just don’t get amused at watching someone use the wrong tool for the job.

Dirt racing is a major part of racing and even goes back to the origin of NASCAR. They used to race dirt quite a bit back in the day. The fact that many of the drivers don't have experience on it makes it that much more interesting. Not everything is super fine-tunes. It adds variables which adds to strategy. I've said I'd like to see cup cars on dirt since the trucks started going to Eldora.

Yep. I was born in New Smyrna and my mom worked the ticket booth at New Smyrna Speedway on the weekends, so I was going to races there from pre-K to first grade (1976-78). I think I attended my first race at Daytona around the same time. We moved to Virginia before I started 2nd grade and my grandpa took me and my older brother to a race at Martinsville (78-79). After bouncing around a bit overseas and a stint in Ohio, we moved back to Daytona. The pastor of the church we went to (Hal Marchman) did the invocation for pretty much all of the races at Daytona, so the youth group got in free to every race. We camped in a bus for the 24HR, and had a reserved section at turn 4 for ARCA, Busch, and Winston Cup races, so I was at just about every event at Daytona from 1987-1991.

I am glad you are into it. For you it must be a blast. For me it is not. If we want to see these drivers on dirt them put them in cars that are designed for it. If you want to see a dirt race. Go to a dirt race, I have never been into dirt racing but I understand those that are. If we are so concerned about the heritage of the sport we should go back to racing convertibles on the beach.

I can respect your view. I'm not into the whole "this is the way it's always been so this is the way it should stay" thing. The reason I like the dirt tracks is because it is different and a new challenge. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we don't run 10 of them in a year, but still. Same goes for new road courses and new tracks in general. There's something about not having the perfect tool for the job and making it work anyway. I liked the colosseum and 1/4 mile track and wouldn't mind seeing another one at a dedicated 1/4 mile track, but I'm also glad it wasn't a points race. One thing I'm skeptical about is this whole street course thing NASCAR keeps trying to push for. I don't want to see that at all.

Definitely sad. Hopefully it won't completely cripple that team. According to the report narrative posted by Bob Pockrass, it sounds like the hauler driver was going too fast and struck another semi, causing them to both go into the median and other lane.

You do you man. You are entitled to that. Just remember what you like because there will be a point when this series becomes something you no longer enjoy. Just like all the other series that are now complete shit.

Sucks for sure. The report I just read says he struck a Honda towing a small box trailer. Either way, states the hauler driver was at fault. Not a good deal at all.

Definitely a valid point. Like you, I've seen many changes in the sport. I think I'm mostly happy to see them change things up since it had become very vanilla over the last 5-10 years. There's still a few things I'm not a fan of on the new cars but they're here to stay for a while.
