    Hey all,

I have an odd sound when reversing in my 2021 Taco OR with only 8900 miles. It doesn't do it all the time and seems to do it more in cold weather and on cold starts. I have also noticed it happening when moving forward and turning, especially when next to buildings so the sound is amplified a bit more and its more audible.

Its sometimes very loud, as you can hear it pretty clearly in the video I provided here. It sounds like a weird harmonic type noise, like a bending metal or something.

In this video, I simply reversed in 2WD not pressing the gas at all. Wheel was cranked almost fully while reversing. Bone stock truck except for new tires. (it made the sound before switching tires as well)

Any ideas? Thanks for your time!

Hard to tell with your jacket, making all that noise. But sounds like your brakes are Hani g up a bit. Do you use ebrake/ parking brake .alot?

Normal for Tacos? This is my first one so I have no prior reference except I had 3 other cars in the same environment and none of them sounded like this.

so basically the e-brake is getting a bit "stuck" and doesn't fully release when I am using handle to disengage? I guess I can live with the sound as long as its not damaging/wearing anything out prematurely. Seems odd to me though that I always use the e-brake on my 2016 Forester and never have any issues like this. I guess its a Taco/rear drum brake thing?

I can’t listen to your video at the moment, but I can tell you that I’ve had more issues with the Taco’s rear drums locking up than any other vehicle I’ve owned. I’ve had it lock up solid even without cold and the e-brake. Moisture was involved.

Your forester most likely had disc brakes on all 4 wheels.

Its still a somewhat rare issue and I don’t avoid using the e-brake in winter because of it.

yea, the Forester has 4 wheel disc. I guess I will live with the sound as long as its not damaging or wearing anything out. Thanks for the help!

I also use my ebrake constantly on my 2020 OR Auto with approx 20k miles, 33000 kms. Summer, Winter, Cold, Dry, doesn't matter, I use it every time I park - but mainly as my driveway is a fairly steep grade. I've never had any issues with the rear drums (yet), and I've never heard that harmonic type noise in the video. Rear drums are a well documented issue on these forums so that's the likely culprit, but I'd have a dealer look at it anyways.
