What's your price range. They currently range new from low $20k to near $200k new. Pick a price range and research. Buy used and get a lower cost EV with good range. It's just like buying an ICE. Research a lot.

My Tacoma is paid off, and gets ok milage with heavy tires.

I'd rather buy a Prius seems more reliable than an EV long term. I don't think Toyota is building the Prius at the moment.

The price of EV batteries is going to increase, so will the price of the entire car, and if I had an EV that needs a new battery that's going to get expensive quick.

You need to research more. Except for the first sentence you're incorrect about the rest. You shouldn't buy anything since you seem to guess a lot.

I'd still want a truck if I bought an EV, and nobody has them for sale at the moment.

Ford has a less expensive EV truck than Rivian. Research them.

Can't take delivery of one right now. Last time I went passed the Ford dealer they had no Mach Es and two pick ups both white XLs. This dealer is also a commercial fleet dealer.

Well you will have to wait. Product demand and market aren't in sync yet.

Probably be less expensive to get a Maverick when one becomes available.

I was going to say didn't Oshkosh win the bid?

Most postal facilities do not have room to park trucks, let alone have room to park trucks that need to be charged over night.

Electric mail trucks sound like a fun idea, but will they work in real world conditions?

At my Age, I'll stick with Gasoline Powered vehicles. If I was 20 years old and thinking 10 years down the road, then maybe the EV Trucks would be more appealing. The video of the Rivian climbing the mountain and trails was pretty impressive with it's 15 inches of ground clearance.
The downside of these EV cars and Trucks is the price. There are too many American Families that simply can't afford a vehicle in those price ranges. Even a 30k dollar EV would be out of reach for many.

    Prius Prime?

Every bit the reliable Prius, plus about 20 miles of EV range. Pretty much the same powertrain as a standard prius, just with bigger batteries.

Heck, my Rav is just the same powertrain as the hybrid Sienna...

There are Ev's under $25k new and used EV's less than that. Also i'm 51. Age doesn't matter when buying an ICE car don't know what age has to do with buying an EV.

Most manufacturers are committing to massive EV production in the near future which will drive costs down. How is a 35-40k Tacoma or even more expensive full size adequately priced for sale but an EV in that range isn’t?

Yep, friends of ours are in their late 60s early 70s they bought an EV last year. We are in our early 50s, while not a full EV we are considering a Hybrid Sienna….and we don’t have any kids.:) Better for hauling stuff than a SUV and better mileage. Too bad they don’t make a cargo version. VW does have the ID Buzz coming, trying to talk my wife into it, but she isn’t sold on a full EV just yet, plus VW one of the worst vehicles for reliability. She had a Jetta years ago and that thing was a nightmare.

Rent a Tesla from Turo to see how you both can adapt. Only thing is you can't charge at home which would be cheaper so have to take that in to account. https://turo.com/

EV would be fine for a DD no problem, my commute is 40 miles round trip. Hers 1.5, she walks or rides a bicycle. She is leery in case of emergencies, especially living in Idaho we don’t have the infrastructure, since most them are only along the interstate corridor.

Plus need a truck, van, or SUV for all of our animals to fit the crates. Nothing really on the market currently or in the price range of the money we want to spend. $35-45Kish. She has been homeless twice in her life, due to unforeseen circumstances out of her control, where she had to literally pick and go. So that is always a concern. These past couple years and current situation with Russia…her concerns aren’t unfounded.

Unfortunately EVs aren’t quite there yet. Perhaps if we don’t go into global nuclear war, things will speed up and make them more viable.

Careful with the Siennas as a cargo vehicle, was about to buy half a dozen for work, but the passenger seat rails are not removable without a lot of screwing around, and you have to defeat the airbag sensors with aftermarket parts. That was a big no no from company insurance.
