Hello, I've called all of our local dealerships, and Toyota and no one can give me an answer. Hoping I can get some feedback here. I have a 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport. Max payload in bed is roughly 1100 lbs. So how far is it safe to haul before damaging suspension, bearings etc? I need to go about 1000 miles from OR to AZ with a full load. I'm a little nervous. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Relax. It is a toyota.

I mean I’m not an expert but I assume the truck would be completely fine as long as you don’t exceed the maximum payload by a lot and do so for an extended period of time.

There’s also an entire episode of top gear where they try to destroy a Toyota pickup and they couldn’t so I think it’s fine lol

That's what I was thinking. But two service managers I spoke to said they wouldn't chance it.

IMG_2026 Large.jpg I just drove my '09 400 miles at max payload and didn't have any issues nor would I have expected there to be. My truck has close to 300k miles on it.

As usual I got about 6 different answers from google. Anywhere from 940 lbs to 1600 lbs. Shit, the gal at one dealership told me 8000 lbs! Dead serious. Not worried about the weight, worried about the distance and going over the high passes.

That seems ridiculous to me (I’m not saying that “at” you, but at what the service managers said).

Why would Toyota rate the truck at 1100 pounds if it’s only safe to drive with that payload for a little bit? Maybe I just don’t know what I’m talking about lol

Yeah that’s a good point. I’ll be interested to see if anyone has a definitive answer.

I asked a couple of them that said "yeah,it should be ok" to send me a text saying that and what max payload was. None of them did

Do you have factory-sized tires? Lift? Do you have the towing package with the transmission cooler? Look in your door jamb for a drfinitive number, all models have slight variations in capacitance.

The only thing I would worry about is tire pressure.

You will have tire wear, might as well limit it and increase to 40 psi.

I've driven my 2020 with the (long)bed fully loaded with camping gear, 2 kids, and two adult from Alabama to the Grand Canyon and back. The whole trip was about 4,500 miles over two weeks. I never weighed the truck but I'm comfortable in saying I was at the max payload. No issues whatsoever.

Load it up and enjoy the drive. :)
