Stop bolting unnecessary crap to your truck, and stop packing ‘everything but the kitchen sink’. A lightweight build with minimal pack-out is king.

My truck is completely stock and a base model OR to boot. Got my tires at 35 psi to help rr and traded my heavy jumper cables to a nice lithium jump box that weighs half.
    I'm doing my part.

Let me paraphrase your post kind sir:
What he is saying is that all your fat ass trucks with steel skids and racks and bumpers add up. Don't bitch after adding 750 lbs and big tires about your fuel efficiency!
    For a rule of thumb...
100 lb added = 1% drop in efficiency
One up tire size = 2% drop in efficiency.

So, you add 500lb and run 285's? You automatically lose 10%. Don't sound like much but you pay a 10% penalty to look cool.
In my case I average 19 mpg. Adding mods as mentioned above means 17 mpg.
Add a roof rop tent or cargo tray is another 10%.

    How did I do?

In all seriousness, I think the commodification and commercialization of outdoor recreation has resulted in a shift from “getting away from it all” to “getting away with it all”.

I was watching some old-timey vids of people wheeling their old Wagoneers and FJs with nothing but a pack of matches, a can of baked beans, a pup tent and a bed roll. It struck a nostalgic chord with me. That’s how they got away with having only 90HP.

The truth is: Every pound of unnecessary weight you remove from your Tacoma means more lift, more available power and torque, more reliability, and better economy. Float over the landscape rather than trudge through it.

The ‘lightweight build’ concept is no joke when you consider some of the “better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it” mindset here on TW. In many cases, it’s actually better to not have it.

Did light weight wheels and lighting tires (Wildpeaks 265/75, RPT1s) and still lost mpg. Lol

Yep. Was shooting for losing 5lbs a corner/20lbs total over stock wheels and tires running GY UltraTerrains. But went will a tire with a warranty. Lol

As a bicycle camper who’s rig and gear is under 40 lbs, I support this. The irony is that the lighter you go the more expensive it gets.
