Playing around with the plasma table today. Honestly, I just wanted one of these for my own shop. I couldn't stop at 1. They turned out pretty cool.

Do you get a lot of burn backs ??

If your not getting dirt through the liner it is pretty hard to get splatter inside the tip .

Is the position of the gun causing wire feed problems .

I got stuck with figuring these problems out on the road to see if it was a easy fix

No not really. I try to be aware to not have any sharp angles. It just stops feeding then when I take the tip off and try to push the wire through there is just a ton of resistance inside the tip. I honestly can’t see what’s causing the resistance. Just figured it was splatter.

Did you pull the tip, nozzle, and diffuser off? Maybe there's something in there, burned or something.

One student in class had a feeding issue and like 2 ports on the diffuser were in a weird way 'welded shut' with a piece of wire kind of blocking where the wire feeds out of.

Hmm yeah I pulled everything off and cleaned everything and put a new tip on and it is fine now. If I run into the same issue again I will look deeper.

Ok just what manufacture wire are you using?

Bad spots in the wire that are to large for the contact tip If the wire feed just stops

If the wire feed stops while output in enabled it will burn back! Some burn backs are worse then others it might be arcing enough inside the tip to increase the resistance trying to install the tip on the wire after it has been trimmed back.

You are trimming the wire back because it is all most impossible to get the tip off other wise.

It is always good to know the outcomes of these issues.

I gotta wonder if it is the Nozzle Dip causing dirt to stick to the inside of the contact tip yet you see no real signs of dirt or arcing .

    Good Luck!

Using Hobart 10 lb spool .030. Ya it might be the gel. I’m going to stop using it and see if it helps. Thanks for the ideas

My first MiG welds this 1/8” and I’m using a titanium MiG 140 .035 Hobart wire seems like something off

I think you have a great handle on the procedure .
Outside angle butt welds are actually quite difficult.
Yours look great for only just starting out.

Please tell us how thick the metal is you are welding.

The only thing I can suggest is dial back the wire speed,so not so much of a high profile weld bead is applied. Even then, I would not go too much. Those welds are very nice.

Remember, you are not TIG welding. Don't try for the ( in my opinion) " stack of dimes" look.

Yes, they look nice, but who gives a shit after paint is applied?

    This!

A stringer will always be strong if laid right.

Adding any patterns just introduces other variables and can cause welds to not fully penetrate.

This of course is aimed at Dean.

Oh and, skip battery-powered grinders and get yourself a few plug-ins. Also since you're just running beads and whatnot, no need to hit the mill scale off.

    It’s 1/8 inch steel
I wasn’t trying to really do stacking dime just following the cursive e that I seen abunch of videos said to do
There’s not much penetration so I think I was technically moving to quickly and that’s why it stuck out so much
Atleast that’s what my friend said from the pictures who welds for a shipyard
I was doing an outside corner because I’m trying to practice for doing my cmc on my truck

I’ve got both battery and plug in grinders just the smaller one was more convenient to use cause the closest plug was to far away to use for mine

Yeah I’ve had my 60v flexvolt cordless dewalt grinder for 3 years. Use at work and for all my projects, beat the hell out of it and it’s been awesome! Don’t regret buying it.

I see no reason to argue the merits of cordless vs corded grinders.

They both have their purposes and they both work great!

If you prep your pieces right you don't need to do outside corner for a CMC.

So I figured out why the welds looked weird I had it in the wrong polarity
I was using this machine for fluxcore first which is DCEN While MiG is DCEP
I Tried again with what I had left which in 1/4 but it looks a lot better I think only problem is I need to find a better circuit cause I kept blowing the breaker that why it’s not a smoother weld
I am only using a 110 machine so I know I’m pushing it pretty hard with 1/4 in plate

There are a few ways to skin the cat but I like open outside corners like that on my CMC. Gives the puddle a place to go which means less bulbous weld/less grinding when I'm done.

Same. The majority of my welds on a CMC are open corners.
