    Right.

I claimed my shop's demo as my own last year in March as soon as it came in. Rocky Mountain sent us a demo Instinct but the ten or so 2021 Instincts we had coming for stock were all pre-sold.

No sense in having a demo around only for people to like it and then come to find out it was impossible to purchase.

Brands would rather allocate what would have been demo bikes as new stock for shops to actually sell.

Our shop doesnt sell demos unless its super old or a rare situation. They print money after the inital month or two.

Not sure what you mean. How do they print money?

In the past they were nice to have early in the season so people could order that bike in if they liked it. But now... By the time we get our demos we've already pretty much sold or pre-sold that particular bike.

Because after the bike is paid for they bring in $200-700 a week.

    Ah... I see.

We don't rent out demos. They're free to take out.

When I worked in a bigger shop, and in a bigger market, our demos were still seperate from our rental fleet. Our high-end rentals would get a refresh each year anyway. That way we could either offer it up for a potential buyer to ride that model for a day or week or whatever, or, a renter may end up liking that bike and be able to purchase the exact same model.

We could sell them off at the end of the year as "moderately thrashed" instead of after a few years as "fully trashed." :D

That makes sense. Yeah we did the 1 year demo deal before the pandemic, but you know how that went.

Think the shop has 4-6 bikes and 4-5 ebikes for rent and a few get rented out everyday and all are gone most weekends. So its steady business.

My last shop had more rentals at any one time than my current shop has stock bikes. Ha.

We get maybe one or two requests for a rental each year and usually one of us will just rent out our personal bike. It's a very small market.

@evenslower Here is the bike with your donated parts! I owe you a few
For me the old Marlin conversion/refurb was a fun project. Now if the rain will stop so I can hit the trail and properly test it out. Works great in the yard though!

    Converted from 3x8 to 1x10

Very cool, glad it worked out. Need to make a point to hit LPP next time I’m rolling through. Been a long time

Depending on how long since you rode LPP, they have changed the trail layout. They took out the big up hill at the end of the trail and changed it to switchbacks. That make that part easier. Other parts have added hills and there is a jump line now running along side the road to the main parking lot/beach area. It's still a challenging and fun ride.

Let me know when you are coming this way and I'll try to be around to ride with you.

Sweaty mess is the norm working in the summer so I hope it doesn’t go quite that long but in this weather it’s just a good warm up. If it does maybe I won’t be so fat then or sweat as much.

I'm thinking deeper than that. Its a signal from manufacturers that they don't expect supply and demand to return to pre-pandemic levels anytime soon. "why demo bikes in late summer/fall when bikes won't be readily available in 2023?"

I just want to demo a pivot switchblade, a SC bronson, and SC hightower. I'm looking for a bike that is comfortable on tech climbs just as much as the downhill. And poppy.

I own a 2021 Pivot SB. Thing climbs as well as people say which is probably the main reason I've kept it this long. I'm hoping to sell it though to make a jump down to a 429 for a little more playfulness. I'll be honest I have not had any bites on my PB and Craigslist ads. Perhaps because I didn't allow for shipping.

    .

I also have a Switchblade. Love it.

As far as selling, I've sold quite a few bikes on PB that were shipped, it went fine, I had my local shop box and ship the bike for me and the buyer paid for shipping. Just an idea.

I would be interested in buying. I can't pay market value but I can make the transaction super easy - I'll pay you and you just drop it at the bike shop. I can take care of the rest. Send me some specs if you're serious about selling

I've shipped plenty of bikes and sold through pinkbike. Its a little more effort but ive had good luck with very little issues.

Have not but I came from a 140/120mm Devinci Django so I'm familiar with short-travel frames.
