Anyone on here got a manual labor job? If so, when do you make time to lift? Not really a morning person, but is it unrealistic to expect to have enough energy after work to still make progress? Starting a new job monday.

Manual labor aka construction job ever since I graduated high school. Used to lift in the morning. Alarm would go off at like 2:30-3am and train before work. Hated it. But got it done.

Now I’m a after work person.

You can make it work either way if you really want it.

My energy is a little slow to start in the morning and I'm one of those people who aren't really affected by caffeine, so I generally wait for mid morning, but that won't be an option anymore. Seems like after work is a better idea, but availability will come in to play and I'm wondering if I'll need to move dinner up before going to the gym so I don't feel sapped. I've not done a labor job like this before so its going to be a major change.

When you figure out the solution to that let me know.
Its hard. When I was working 50 hours a week on my feet all day and hauling heavy stuff (shit that weighs as much as me) it was hard.

I could squeeze in an hour of easy cardio before my shifts without much issue.

Lifting was tougher. I tried to come home after a hard day and do some exercises just to make sure I was hitting all muscle groups. Just something to get a pump and not over do it.

Following a structured routine was damn near impossible.

Have grace with yourself adjusting to a new routine and be OK with taking a few months to find out what best works for you. That way you don’t mentally exhaust yourself.

    It was tough for me.

At least let me put it this way, it would be close to impossible for me to do everything I can do now (60mpw consistently with 2-4 lift days) while doing that job.

    Recovery chages big time.

As others have told me and now I tell others, time management and dedication. It’s possible.

You cannot avoid over training and burn out using sheer will alone. Believe me I have tried.

I have the ability to train like a beast and work like a beast. My body cannot handle the demand. Not natural at least.

So yes you can do a lot with time management and discipline, no doubt about that. However a true balance between doing what you want, optimizing performance, and getting recovery in becomes an art form.

Like I would LOVE to be able to run a powerlifting routine and train 50-90 miles a week for ultras, but fuck not gonna happen and actually perform maximally at both. You will over train and end up injured.

Just depends on what one is doing and what ones goals are. There are physical limitations. As much as I wish there wasn’t.

Again all depends on the job. Brewing work was tough as hell. I’ve worked some construction and depending what I was doing that wasn’t so bad to add in training.

Appreciate the feedback. At the moment, I lift 3 days a week. I want to keep that, but thought maybe switching from M-W-F to T-TH-S so I'd have one day without time constraints. I'm getting into dry-lay masonry which is moderate physical labor. I want my back to stay strong so I am hoping for a transition that won't wreck my current habits too bad or for too long.

I promise it’s doable and not that bad. I’ve worked with iron workers who swing big ass sledge hammers and carry heavy shit all day that still workout after work. It’s a adjustment but its nothing that can’t be done. You got this.

I don’t get it. I’m injecting test. Why the fuck were the weights still heavy today? Isn’t it supposed to make you Superman? 100lbs felt like freaking 300lbs.

Should have waited to start test till after lol it's gonna take 4 weeks for it start doing anything noticable.

You gotta think of it like this: you aren't "adding" total testosterone onto that natural 500ng/dl level you had. When you start injecting your natural test production stops and drops to nothing, then over a few weeks TRT injection takes over for the hormone production and that's when you start feeling it.
