Does the fiber go right into the router? If not does it go: fiber receiver -> AT&T modem? If so, so you know, the receiver should be able to provide WAN access to multiple devices. Right now with Telus I have it setup fiber receiver -> 2.5 G managed switch -> Telus modem for TV limited to 50 mbps and my Asus router without limits. Works great since Telus let's each router pull their own WAN IP. You should find out if AT&T gives you two IPs because, if so, you can just use a switch before there box to break it out to your own solution while running their box for TV and phone. You don't need a managed switch either, I just found one cheap lol.

Windows 11 Pro will need a Microsoft Account, internet connection | Business Standard News (business-standard.com)

For the devices you're talking about they wouldn't use Windows anyway. If you're going to lock something down with air gaps and software to block any outside network connections then Windows is the worst way to do it. It's also possible to just connect for setup, then disconnect afterwards, if we are talking about some uses where users aren't allowed to connect to unsafe open wireless.

    Yeah.
Fiber goes directly to the router. There are IP Passthrough settings, but I need to get smarter on networking. I tried a few different configs, and none fully worked reliably. We have 42+ clients in my house and I don't want to mess with configuring at the client side. The natives here go bonkers when the internet is down, so I get limited time to mess with settings.

What is funny is that my wife called pi-hole the "cock blocker" when I first set it up -- she couldn't just click on an ad link if it was something she was interested in. On the flip side, she no longer had to watch the ads that her free games would try to force on her. Now that we don't have pi-hole in the mix, she misses it, and my daughters immediately complained about seeing ads again.

Any tips anyone can provide would be wonderful. I have a Ubiquiti router I use for some devices that I planned to use as the passthrough client and DHCP server.

The easiest thing would be for AT&T to open up the setting of DNS servers. Just set those and I'm golden.

Ah I misunderstood, I thought they were requiring the online account to log in, not create the user profile. While there are much better OS for air gapped devices, you'd be surprised how many are using windows still.

Ubuntu is based off of Debian, not Red Hat

Is this so they can better track who hasn't paid for a licence?

I installed a pre-Release of Win 11 when everyone claimed it wouldn't install on older hardware. It asked me to create an account or sign in, but didn't force me to. Does having an Hotmail account work?

I imagine it’s to help them track everything you do easier. The last time I installed win10 I couldn’t even find the option for a local account without unplugging my ethernet.

    Yeah.
Installing with just a local account is not obvious, I think you just have to skip over that step during install (it doesn't tell you that you can continue with a local account) and it lets you continue with a local account. I've never made one and don't have one now, and I've never been pestered to create one. My daughters like it because they get the same view on their desktops and laptops, so there is a little more to it than tracking you. But I am one of those people that just opts out of most things in the privacy settings. Other than that, I just don't give a crap if you do track me.

I setup Windows 10 for my kids. I don't remember creating any account. Just the usual user/password setup.

    Yeah.
We are pretty much all wireless here. Our house wasn't wired for network, and we've got a mix of high ceilings, normal ceilings, and a partial second floor. Our attic looks crazy and I'm totally unmotivated to pull wires up there, lol. Maybe I'll pay someone someday, I would love to hardwire some devices and have the option of spreading out my access points instead of relying on mesh.

I got on the AT&T support forum and explained what I was trying to do. The AT&T support folks were stumped and suggested I switch to a Business account and work with their support. I checked the business forums side, and it was mostly people with VOIP issues or complaining about service outages, so that didn't seem like a good move. Luckily a power user chimed in and confirmed that the only way to get what I wanted would be for them to let me set the DNS servers in their router, which they are never going to do, and that all I'd get by following their advice is a bigger bill.

So, I ordered an ASUS RT-AX86U. I'll just shut off the AT&T wireless and do IP Passthrough to the new router and set my DNS server there. I can still run the Ubiquiti Mesh in AP mode for the older/slower/more distant devices. The AT&T wireless has been flawless, but I'll likely get better performance from the ASUS router anyway.

I'm piling up old wireless equipment.

Does anyone else have a Radeon video card that has one monitor go black for several seconds, then return to normal operation? I have a RX-590 that it's been happening to for months. I went on their website to discover this isn't the only Radeon card that has this issue.

If they don't fix the software soon, this will be the last Radeon video car I ever buy.

I've only had Nvidia Cards but have you already checked drivers and what not?

Yep, my drivers are up to date. That's the first thing I did when it started happening.

hmmm I hate display problems. Good luck! I wonder if it's something stupid like RGB software causing issues.

Yep. I actually swapped cables between my two monitors, and had the same issue with the same monitor, which is set up as my primary monitor through Win-10.

Does it happen if that monitor is plugged in to a different port on the video card?
Is the refresh rate set the same as your other monitor?

(I'm sorry if you've tried all this.. I'm just going through some troubleshooting steps)

some of this, a little of that
I have a 6800XT and in a couple of games it will go black for a few seconds and then back to normal. Happens usually within the first few minutes of playing and so far only with games and usually in RDR2 or BeamNG, it doesn't happen with No mans sky, DCS or MS flight sim. it doesn't do it with Photoshop, light room or any other software. I have had driver issues with instability and such in the last year, i think I'm goign back to Nvidia with the next one.
