    4 run, 2 don't
Those C clamps are supposed to be the ticket.

Then again with rust, I can see it being hard to do.

As mentioned above, a C-Clamp is the way to go here. Can rent them for essentially a deposit only or grab one off Amazon for 50 bones or less (I'm sure you'll use it again). Reference this video... you can do it yourself.

I've never had a 48 hour time limit with any of the tools I've rented, is that new?

No those loaner kits just float around the different stores in your city.....
so they dont care when.......if tool was already restocked, they just float it to another store....
in last 6mo for harmonic puller kit.....I've returned 45days out at autozone no problem....
but in my greater metro area there's like 40 or 50 stores....

Stuff bought from autozone I've returned 6mo later unused(tie rods).....I have a rewards accounts so they journal each purchase......forever.....

That was a fun project and way past due when I did mine on my 1995 Tacoma.
Plenty of great write ups here and plenty of good videos around for tips.
I didn’t have any pro tips to add but this story came to mind as I worked on it in the garage and I hoped it might entertain someone else.
If you get bored, take a look and let me know if you find the story entertaining…

Maybe a regional thing, because I've kept the tools I rented for well over a week and they never said anything.
