The title to the thread implies you're undecided. You also mentioned you're on the fence on a 2022. People are offering you their opinions because you posted on an internet forum on the assumption you're undecided and it's based on colour choice. Not sure I understand the point of this thread if all you're looking for are peoples guesses on what colours might be next year.

You know what? You're absolutely right. My apologies. I expected people to give all sorts of opinions, and I did indicate I was on the fence about it. Guess what I really meant was that I was on the fence about the color.

    Appreciate your feedback.

    No thanks.

I considered that. His favorite color is blue. Wish that was still an option.

Go fullsize. Silverado's are nice. Backseat in a taco for a 10-year-old kids gonna suck. In fact the back seat is basically worthless for anything but gear if you ask me. That's only if the two in the front seat are 5 foot five could anyone sit back there.
Had a Sierra and a Siverado. For what I was doing at the time they were perfect which included dogs, people and 5th wheel. Went to the Taco because I didn't have a need for the backseat and wasn't carrying people or trailering around a 5th wheel.
That Ranger would be great for a trade-in on a full-size.
My buddy has the Ford F250 super duty diesel and loves it. I got to drive it not too long ago and the thing is amazing.
These tacos are primarily plastic front and rear and handing it off to your 16 or 17 year old kid you will pay out the Wazoo for deductibles and repairs when he starts hitting everything.
    Good luck.

For the price of the Pro I'd go fullsize 1/2 ton. Since you are already considering a 3/4 ton maybe go with that.

Not the same as a Pro, and I like the Tacoma in Pro trim.

You could always buy your son a utility package Tacoma, if Toyota still builds them when ever he starts driving.

Put your name in on the e-lime green now. You’ll have time to think about it…

E-L is not my thing, (Lunar Rock is!)
but I’d likely go for that before white, grey, or black!

a PRO needs a PRO color. (And yes - an MT!)

Even with an ‘in’ it may not pan out this year - in that case you’ll get a shot at a MT PRO ‘23 (in Pink?? :p -I’m sure it will be a good color!)

in the mean time you can drive the little ford…

I would suggest going by Ft. Walton Toyota, Bob Tyler in Pensacola just isn't my favorite IMO.

I think if I were in your shoes I would more seriously consider a used TRD Pro in cavalry blue. It is probably a combination that is more difficult to find, but would have been my first choice had it been an option at the time. The additional benefit is that it should still last until you are ready to hand it down. And, when you get to that point it will be less of a pinch if anything happens when your son inherits it and inevitably gets into an accident or generally makes any mistakes in it.

Always always always give a 16 year old kid a beater for their first car. Let them destroy it. Then buy them something decent and make sure they are working part time to pay for their own insurance and gas.

If you are friendly with a dealer, get a 2022 ordered ASAP with a refundable deposit. Nothing to lose by getting in line. I've been waiting since last August.

When your grandfather sold you the truck for $1, was he aware you were going to turn around and sell it right away? If not that's a lame move. I'm sure he could use the money in his golden years.

I would go put your choice on order and leave the dealer a few options. While you are at it call every dealer in 1000 miles and see if they can get one for you and if so, fly there and drive home with the kid.

After reading through all this I can tell you if you are even thinking of going 3/4 ton/2500 do it, I have 2 Tacoma's and a 21' GMC 3500 AT4. The Tacomas are for my kids as they're underpowered and small/easy to get around with. My AT4 is literally 2 times bigger in every way, WAY more power, almost same MPG, much better ride, and WAY nicer inside. Now it's not apples to apples by any means as my AT4 had a MSRP of $80k and the 22' Tacoma OR Premium I got a month ago was $43k but I enjoy the GMC much more than the Tacoma.

I thought I had an "in" at a dealer as well. Put a deposit down in October, and I am thinking mine probably won't be here before 2023 model year now. Maybe things are better in USA.

Just so happens Ukraine is the major supplier of Neon which is used in lasers that make microchips, which will put a strain on that side again.
