Is the skid touching the exhaust pipe at all?

Mine was only 1/8” away and I had to add a washer or two to space it some

Good call will have to check in morning. It has a 1/2” spacer though.

    M.O.R.E. Brand

Its very nice and thick substantial. Like it otherwise.

I keep hearing a weird noise in reverse and sometimes in drive, ended up being the exhaust rattling against the skid when the engine would torque.

this is more like a resonant low even note. sounds like the noise being reflected back more than any sort of rattle. its not super annoying but if i was a stereo head i would be panic sharting.

I had an RCI transfer skid in my 4runner and I didn't really notice a change either way.

Never heard of MORE, but I guess they didn't test their design too much before selling :/

    Pretty big company

the pitch ohhhhhhm is between 2-3k rpm. Seems exhaust related, probably just reflection from where pipe splits (the skid overlays that part of exhaust but doesnt touch by about half an inch).

Is it aluminum? From my dirt bike background aluminum resonates sound more than steel. But on dirt bikes plastics the way to go or the metal will stiffen the frame and not allow it to flex the way it was designed.

I installed one to, and no resonation at all. So no need for public service announcement. Could it be that yours is loose or some else is and vibrating against it?

Its thick powder coated steal, probably 1/8” inch. It does bolt into the crossmember and also both frame rails, so yeah it could be making the frame a bit more rigid. Good point.

Nah brother man dont be a hater, was just letting community know. You can see I actually like it but alas it does resonate. I will be keeping it on.

Followed directions to a T, install was piece or cake. Nothing else tweaked whatsoever. Its 4 bolts.

I’ve been working on cars for 20yrs.

That's not it. 1/8" inch isn't gonna help anything rigidity wise. And likely that same thin steel could be the noise culprit. A while back someone else complained about skid noise and it ended up being a thin steel skid that vibrated/flexed, that caused the noise.

very well could be. I figure its acting like an acoustic chamber and all that sound that would have scattered on road is reflected back up into floor. Its clearly some sort of low harmonic…like a glass bowl being played between 2-3k rpm only…coupled with maybe a slight bit of rigidity its making the frame a giant stethoscope. Not sure. Will try to post video tomorrow when the weather clears up.

That sucks! The skid I got was RCI and it is really thick steel. Zero noise.

Motorized vehicle frame flex is rarely a good thing. That’s the job of your suspension. Even on bicycles without a suspension it’s not a desirable thing. In that case the tires and your legs are the suspension. It’s a common myth.
