This isn't the first time this has happened. Threads on this topic pop up every couple months on here. They just keep getting locked and deleted when they turn into dumpster fires like this one. Not saying 3rd gens are garbage or anything but this isn't an isolated incident.

    DONE!

I was thinking the same thing. I'd wager each engine has it's "sweet spots" where the oil pickups/passages are at a high or low point so it either gets starved of oil or have it pool somewhere it shouldn't. This would vary engine model to engine model depending on design but I'd wager they all have positions/angles that would make them very unhappy.

Since I have been on this forum, I have not seen a blown engine thread. Sure, I might have missed it and not saying it can't happen. Easy to say threads are locked and deleted and no, I don't believe it. I have yet to see any thread get deleted since I have been here for a mechanical issue only. . I just did several searches. One other thread 6 years ago and guess what it wasn't deleted. Funny thing is the other gens had a thread as well. Threads get deleted because of trolls. I love it when non 3rd gen owners jump in a 3rd gen thread to bash(not accusing you have that, by the way. just in general).

Can a vehicle blow an engine, does this happen? of course. You name the make and model and it's blown an engine. "Another blown engine" signifies a problem. and I don't buy it. I stand by my comments about many who are on this forum.

This silverado blew an engine just cruising at 55mph. I guess all silverados are suspect now. Can't drive one to the store for fear of blowing an engine:rofl:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K866m7OQ1vc

Here is an older Tacoma, oh look ANOTHER BLOWN ENGINE on a PREVIOUS GEN Tacoma. They must all be shit:rofl:

PS: I am having lots of fun here. :D

    Start reading from here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-in-one-of-these.601673/page-30#post-24725649

They're not just spontaneously exploding. It's all happened to people that wheel the shit out of their trucks and put them at extreme angles regularly. They blew alot of oil out of that exhaust on several occasions over a span of months before it finally gave up.

Here's his dedicated thread to the issue:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/grenaded-3-5-67k-miles.698576/#post-24728490

I was mistaken, it got locked not deleted and then he started a new version in the tech section to avoid all the BS in the 3rd gen forum but it met the same fate:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2gr-fks-engine-catastrophic-failures.698687/#post-24733161

    Enjoy

I've owned all three motors and taken them on some steep, nasty shit. They all smoke and all have the potential for oil starvation. They're all great offroad. Motor oil starvation has been a Toyota issue since like 1990 and been a general issue for off road vehicles since WW2 lol.

I will stir the pot by stating the 4.0 & 3.5 were designed for different uses. Since the 2GR-FE and 1GR-FE were both released at the same time (2005), Toyota could have saved a ton of money by plugging the 2GR into every gas powered Hilux, Prado and Land Cruiser since then. But Toyota didn't do that for...reasons. You still see the 1GR pushing every petrol powered flagship of Toyota offroad reliability around the world today, including the LC 70 series.

Not bad mouthing the 3.5L, it's a great motor and I'll bet we see it used (or something similar) in the next gen of Hiluxes & Land Cruisers. But Toyota seemed to see a difference between them and I have no clue why that would be since they're pretty similar aside from the displacement and VVTi system. My guess is money (1GR is cheaper to build and likely cheaper to repair) is what landed the 1GR in the Hilux and Land Cruiser. Gearing is what f'd the 3rd gen Auto Tacos, not the motor.

I've lunched one engine, 400 in a 79 Bronco, valve spring broke and it popped the retainer and dropped the valve into the cylinder with catastrophic results. [engines don't like great big holes thru the cylinder wall and into the water jacket] It was the perfect time to drop in another one but do some cam work and such before it went in. That went from a miss to a WHANG WHANG WHANG!!!! and coolant in the oil in about 3 seconds.

Haha no one buys those kits, it’s a money loser for those guys!
Down the road at some point I’m sure I’ll need to get a new truck, I’ll stick with a Tacoma whatever Gen they have at that point.

    Cheers!

I do not disagree with what you're saying, esp on the gearing.

Hahahaha! From what I have seen, the 4.0l need a tune for different reasons of equal importance. My feeling is that Toyota cannot properly tune V6 drive trains in trucks and SUVs.

Not sure where it would come in handy, the bottom end is good, Doing 60 or 70mph on the highway in hilly country using cruise is enjoyable, getting 17 or 18 comb for gas mileage with 285s and a canopy.
There are lots of good 3rd Gen trucks out there, shit happens occasionally.
It would suck though buying a new motor, that’s going to cost a few bucks.

I'll keep the 3rd gen crowd updated. So far after many times only seeing sky, the Blue Taco is good at 75,000 plus...knock on wood.
