Ending first year as a beekeeper. Wrapped the hives with NOD BeeCozy, and topped with Apifonda (fondant). Temps look like they're dropping and not going above 7 degrees Celsius for the next week.

    Nice
Mine will be closed up and cleaned next week and will start feeding pollen in December as they should start brooding up in January Florida bees

Not a beekeeper but just wanted to say thank you to everyone who does. Not all heros wear capes, some wear a bee suit!

Nice. Slowly coming out of winter here, first year beekeeper here. One deadout so far, out of 2 colonies. Gonna make a flowerpot swarm trap. I'm in the city. What do you think my chances are of catching a swarm.

Looks like all 3 of our colonies made it through the winter here in northeast PA. They are out early.

way higher if you're in the city and make a good trap. BUT your chances of there being any swarms to catch are wayyyyyyyyyyy lower haha

Both of mine made it through so far. They were out early as well. Making cleansing flights a few weeks ago even, but these fluctuating temps are rough

haha don't fall for the virtue signaling too hard. Keeping honey bees is a lot more complicated and difficult than it was 30 years ago with the mites n all but the bees are doing fine. We're not heroes, just regular guys with a cool hobby :)

I find double nucs with solid bottom board With 5 frames in the top works the best, little swarm commander on top.

Not bad cleans the dead out and you will have some frames for splits .

    That’s great

    Awesome
I lost one the queen started laying drones in November and I couldn’t find her to cull and combined with a stronger hive.
Just got done with making splits and I am at 41:anonymous: I may have a problem. Gonna be selling some nucs so. 8 are spoken for already.

I get all my honey from my buddy and I see the amount of work and dedication it takes. It's crazy how easily you can lose everything. I have a lot of respect for anyone who does this. Plus if it wasn't for you guys I'd be stuck eating fake honey from the grocery store

I need to start some bees.
Worked for a bee guy in high school but have a CRS problem so I can't remember shit!
    What do I need?
    Where to get it?
And really want my own honey and need pollinators for our huge garden. About a quarter acre garden.

I don't keep bees but a large swarm moved into the crotch of my maple tree three years ago. My wife is an avid flower gardener and she's thrilled to have them around. Its like a bee highway as they go in and out. Its quite fun to watch.

I buy my hives from Miller bee supply https://millerbeesupply.com/
They have great wooden ware, then try to get some local bees , I’m sure there are some beekeepers in the area
