At least put your changes in bold. I had to go back and find what I wrote before.

That has to be a big hole he’s getting in or, he is stuck in there. You could be dealing with a rat.

I set off 3 insect bombs in a rental house. Came back 2 days later and a rat had tried to gnaw the bottom of the back door to get out. I cleaned the house and never found it. About a week later I saw him in a gas hot water heater vent stack above the roof line, he had gotten stuck and died. Good riddance mofo!

I've compared the feces with pictures of squirrel/rat droppings, and it definitely appears to be a squirrel. He's already in, I'm not convinced he ever leaves.

Unfortunately once they find a good hidey-hole they claim it and dont want to leave. I got two five gallon buckets of acorns out of the ceiling of the porch from the renos. They gnawed into the eaves after jumping onto the window screen and climbing up. I took the screens out and watched one jump face-first into the glass about five times before realizing their route was axed. .22 and live traps with bread and about 12 squirrels later, fixed. Maybe its a groundhog? My coworker had one in his office all weekend that snuck in when he left the garage door open. Like ‘you didnt hear that friggin thing?!’ It destroyed the place, ate the bottom of the doors, chewed the pelican cases, forklift tires, you name it.

I have two of those set out. One with peanut butter in it, one with cheese/dog treats/chocolate in it. All things it's chewed through in the basement before. It won't touch either one.

I've filled every hole I can find... (shut up @Delta09) so I'm hoping I can just set enough traps that it can't move without being caught pretty much. I'll try leaving bread in the cages too.

Don't have the back end of trap against a wall. They have to be able to see through trap or won't go in.

Yep, both are setup with the side against a wall instead of the back, where the squirrel should be running along.

Hmmm, may not be a squirrel. Have a trail cam you can set up?
