agreed on the value of the truck, problem is the level point will probably be five dollars plus (CA), coming down from an even higher point.

The other factor is price. Up here a 6MT is a good value truck. When I say that our packages are a lot different. To get a 6MT it’s a sport premium. It’s the same as a US truck with full tech pkg, leather and moonroof minus led headlights. Price is 48k. A Pro auto is 62k. Plus 12% tax on either.

Where are folks with VIN looking up their build status? I was told my build date is 3/21/22 with a VIN and Vspec. Wanted to snoop around and pass the time. Thanks!

Shows how archaic Toyota's system is. I work for BMW. Customer walks in and places an order for nearly any car with any options, hell you can even request a Ferrari color from the 60's and they'll make it for you (if you want to pay) and the car generally shows up in about 8-10 weeks. When I visited a dealer to place a deposit I was blow away at how this is being handled.

Under normal production levels I think it was working fine - If you wanted a certain trim and color, you could typically find it on a lot nearby or at worst, have a dealership request an allocation. This is my 3rd Toyota and the first two I had no problem finding exactly what I wanted within a 100 mile radius of me. I do think the system exposes some issues though when demand is high and production is almost 20% less than normal levels.

I think as long as you want something fairly common it worked well. When I got my MT OR in 2017 I still had to drive 200 miles to get it. Just a basic truck in gray with MT. Now with that said had I wanted to order I am not sure how long it would have taken. But for those of us that want a few of the odd ball colors, MT's or PRO's we seem to be in a really tough spot.

No, I know what I am getting into...and I know I'm going to be paying more for fuel. I've also been driving MINIs for the past ~20 years averaging over 28mpg around town, so pretty much anything was going to be more expensive to fuel up.

I also think having a large dealership close by helps too. Their volume is probably the highest of my entire state and probably rivals some bigger dealerships in much larger cities in a 6 hour radius of here (Little Rock, AR). They were able to put in a request for pretty much exactly what I wanted into the allocation system and within two cycles it allocated me the exact truck. Even my sales rep was surprised how close the allocation matched the request. I realize I am very lucky. Many here that started looking a month or more before me are still waiting.

Yeah that's awesome! Is there a place you can lookup a dealers volume? Curious to see how the ones I have deposits at stack up.

Probably not outside of Toyota's sales database. Dealerships websites will give you a decent idea of their current inventory, though. I wish there was some way to look that up. I'm just going on lot/dealership size. its footprint is huge. Despite the crazy-low inventory numbers the last 6-10 months they've had at least half the lot full with other brand used cars and some new Toyotas that didn't get spoken for before arriving.

I used this option a number of years ago to not only build a 5-Series my way (manual transmission, sport package and such), but to pick it up in Munich and have a two week vacation with my wife bombing all over Europe. :)

Manual 5, quite the rare build/impossible today. Very nice!

Cold feet? Not a chance. However, I am hoping others get cold feet so a TRD Sport 6MT with all of the packages will make it into my garage sooner than initially thought.

Yes, dealer size and volume does seem to matter. The first dealer I placed a deposit at showed 3 tacos online and estimated me at 6+ months. The second had 15 online and even offered me two OR's coming in that were not spoken for yet but were not MT. This place quoted me 45-60 days. Looks like dealer 2 is much larger and gets far more inventory. Hoping that is why I was quoted such a short wait time. That or the sales rep has no idea what they are talking about.

Using the "kissmygrits" Toyota inventory tool to search for Army Green TRDOR DCLB's, it became obvious which regions/dealerships were getting the lion share of the builds I liked. California/Colorado/Utah, and a few New England-area dealerships were getting almost all of them. Made me wonder if that was just because it's what their customers requested or if they dealerships were allocated them from Toyota anyways. Looking at the VINs later, they were all presold, of course.

I'd be thrilled to get Tacoma MPG's! Current truck averages 11-12 MPG with my driving.

Based on Toyota and my dealer's inventory trucks are slowly but surely trickling in. Last week Toyota online inventory was showing 4 TRD Pro's in my area. Today there's 16!

Similarly the dealer I have a deposit down on is also showing more trucks in their inventory as well.

I'm definitely buying GAP insurance on mine when it comes in. It's impossible to speculate, I doubt MSRP is going to go back down. I sell plumbing supplies wholesale and our world has been flipped upside down the past 2 years with materials going up so much in price. I really don't think it's going back down. Why would Toyota, kohler, mcdonalds lower their pricing when we are paying it. They aren't going to be lowering wages back down, so there is no way they lower prices down. We're in this for a while. I also don't plan to sell my truck anytime soon.

I'm in FL and only 2 dealerships seem to be getting anything I want, and they're all going to dealers who are $5k over MSRP. Other dealers are getting trucks, I don't see them on the spreadsheet. The whole process is frustrating.

Exactly what I was going to say. My truck has an ETA of 4/9. I've also been going back and forth. A couple things is with these trucks are bulletproof and hold their value better than 99% of the cars on the road. As long as you don't roll negative equity, and either pay cash or a significant down payment your not going to lose out. This is my first taco, I've never been more excited about a new vehicle. I'm not going to let temporary gas prices affect my decision that started over a year ago.
