Yes that was discussed earlier, and a wacky outcome, but I think most of TEAM-RED that has purchased an M12 or M18 Impact Wrench since then has bought the 3/8" instead of the 1/2". (I have, and all my impact sockets are 1/2")

 

I realize a Milwaukee thread is likely going to get biased answers but here goes anyway... I've been mostly a DeWalt guy, but my set of battery powered tools 18v XRP, 15 years old and very happy with them) are wearing out and need to be replaced. I am trying to decide if I stay with DeWalt and build my tools around them, or if I should jump ship and switch over to Milwaukee. The Milwaukee/Home depot relationship is a is as I have a HD very close to me, but in reality, this is a pretty minor factor. So, what say you, is everyone in this thread 100% pro Milwaukee? Or is there a reason for a (hobbyist/diyer, I'll gut and renovate a few more rooms with these tools over the next few years but I am not a contractor) to stick with DeWalt? From what I've read so far, DeWalt is lighter, otherwise it seems there's pretty equal pros/cons to both brands. So... Convince me, join team red?

 

My opinion is that choose what you want, just make sure you get the right cost-tool ratio for your needs.

I have Milwaukee and Ryobi. I was switching over to only Milwaukee, then I bought a RYOBI One+ HP 18V SDS Plus and (2) High Perfromance 4AH batteries.

I think DeWalt has some nice tools I wish I bought instead of my Milwaukee versions, but... c'est la vie.

 

I think it really depends on your end goal. The nice thing about Milwaukee is all of the specialty tools (ratchets, inflator, chainsaws etc). If you want the specialty tools, Milwaukee is the way to go.

If you just want the standard power tools (impacts, drills, lights etc), then Dewalt isn't a bad option.

 

Good point. I don't think I need the specialty tools, but it would be nice to have the option. Basically I just want as few different types of batteries and chargers as possible. Likely this decision will be kicked around a bunch and then It'll come down to if I can find any deals

 

Why is everything becoming battery operated?

It amazes me that even a friggin' TABLE SAW is battery-only. Like... what?

Table saws, mitre saws... make it all cordless for no reason! Nothing beats having to recharge your table saw rather than keep ripping boards all day long!

Sorry, just saw this thread and came in to vent. Some of us happen to enjoy corded tools. Battery operated has its place but imo it's for light work and not heavy loads or extended use times, and yet every mfg seems to be moving to primarily cordless junk.

 

I got into Milwaukee when I got great deal on a combo kit several years ago, and have been very happy with their tools. Since then I have expanded my collection quite a bit. I also own quite a few Ryobi tools as well, but these are mostly light use tools. I'll add that I am just an avid DIY'er who likes tools. I think you go with what you like best, you can't go wrong with Dewalt. I would suggest you get brushless where possible though.

Milwaukee surge impact is easily the most surprisingly impressive tool I have bought. Milwaukee's M12 FUEL line is quite impressive, if you are just doing home-improvement stuff. Home Depot online and instore have some really good mix-match kits recently, and every now and then a daily sale.
This would be a great way to spend around $370 and get started with Milwaukee M12 Fuel tools:

• Surge Impact
• Drill with Hammer Drill feature
• Oscillating tool, and a bunch of tool ends.
• (2) 2 ah batteries and a charger...
• For another $119 you can get a 3.0AH and 6.0AH battery.

Funny I see people selling their DeWalt 18V stuff. Some guys are basically giving it away, some are asking prices that the market won't support, but worth a shot. other are just completely nuts, like new prices and one 18V marginal battery included.

It's use and budget, and what you like.

I mean - either are perfectly fine and for sure brushless. Home use? Find the deal.

I have DeWalt 20VMax. The only tool that was a dud? The very early massive 1/2" impact. Can't get out of it's own way. Weak. My favorite seems to be the new 6 1/2" circ saw. SO LIGHT. So powerful. A really great saw.

AND I have Milwaukee 12V. Weight, power, size, price............man these are the best...........

 

pretty sure corded versions of all the major tools still exist. and I don't think they're going anywhere. people just talk about the battery ones more, because they are newer.

 

Having witnessed someone cut through their own power cord (thankfully they were isolated so only the tool got fried), battery operated tools have a definite place, but yeah, hard to beat wired even with the new fangled lithium polymer blah blah batteries. Repitition-corded ease of single/short term use, battery all the way

 

AFAIK Milwaukee does not produce a corded table saw. Otherwise I would've gotten that rather than splashing down on a Bosch.

to anyone's knowledge, have they ever made a corded table saw? I know they have a corded miter saw. would be weird for them discontinue a corded table saw. but you may be right, at least for Milwaukee. They may be leaning really hard into the cordless tools.

 

I’ve been trying to figure out a more handy way to lug around my “daily” most used tools and I think I’m going with this Husky 9.5”x10.5” hard bag. Holds the Milwaukee M12s nicely.

 

Does the 12V fuel oscillating tool only still come up as $107 for you? It is $149 for me and I have been waiting for it to drop here.

 

Have to buy more to save more. Spend $500+ and get $150 off select FUEL tools!

I own the M12 non-fuel. Works just fine, but if you have the option when stocking up, as a DIYer or otherwise the FUEL kits and deals have brought their prices within a nice range.

 

yea, I've bought almost all my tools as kits/deals, and got the Fuel versions of pretty much all of them. I'm just a casual, home DIY'er, so the tools are definitely overkill for my uses. but hey, at least they'll last me a long time.

so yea, waiting on deals and kits is the way to go.

 

You should make a list of what tools you want now and ones you will likely want in the future. Then figure out which brands and battery platforms have those tools.

 

Can't really go wrong with either.
